Empowering OC San's Sewer Asset Management with Info360 Asset

Orange County Sanitation District (OC San) is a public agency responsible for collecting, treating, and safely disposing of wastewater and its residuals for 2.6 million residents and businesses in Orange County, California. OC San operates and maintains two large treatment plants, 15 pumping stations, and about 390 miles of sewer with 4,500 manholes. OC San faces the challenge of fixing aging infrastructure with increasingly limited resources. In 2023, OC San contracted Autodesk to help them implement Info360 Asset software with the goals of standardizing CCTV inspection data collection and management, and enabling the development of risk models for sewer assets in the collections system. In this presentation, OC San will showcase the use of Info360 Asset to manage and analyze the volumes of geographic information system (GIS) and CCTV inspection data to best prioritize the riskiest assets.

Crafting the Best Value Plan for London's Future Water Network Through Modeling and Optimization

Thames Water and Stantec in the United Kingdom have developed an innovative methodology to build a long-term investment plan for London’s clean-water network, serving 8 million customers. This work defines how the future London water network should look like using hydraulic modeling and an optimization framework to identify the best value investment options. It handled extensive data from various sources. A strategic network model (InfoWorks WS Pro software) was prepared, incorporating current and future (25 years) supply-and-demand scenarios to identify needs. Optimatics Optimizer tested numerous solution combinations, calculating cost and hydraulic performance to develop the best value plan. This optimization process required the combined effort of Optimizer processing power, hydraulic modeler input, and stakeholder engagement to select and refine investment plans of interest. The session will provide an overview of the approach we took, and present the results and lessons from the above project.

Streamlining the Delivery of a $2.5 Billion Water Infrastructure Project Portfolio Using Autodesk Construction Cloud
Australia, one of the driest continents, faces critical water challenges. The country now looks beyond its dams to desalination plants and recycled water treatment to address this. However, constructing desalination plants traditionally consumes high energy and impacts the environment. This session focuses on how John Holland, an Australian contractor, successfully streamlined its major water infrastructure projects valued at $2.5 billion by implementing a common data environment hosted on Autodesk Construction Cloud. The firm replaced traditional tasks performed using desktop products—such as clash detection, information management, and design reviews—resulting in significant cost and time savings and improved efficiency across the project lifecycle, benefiting all stakeholders. We will share how we drive sustainability results by using building information modeling (BIM) to optimize recycled materials and reduce carbon footprint, ensuring the potential for environmentally friendly practices within the water infrastructure sector.

Get Vertical: From Network to Plant, Maximize the Potential of InfoWorks ICM Software in Wastewater Management
The Trinity River Authority of Texas adopts a comprehensive wastewater management approach by seamlessly integrating InfoWorks ICM software with both network and plant model representations. This unique strategy enables the evaluation of more-holistic solutions, setting a new standard in the industry. Using the Optimizer software from Autodesk Partner Optimatics, the authority evaluates diverse infrastructure alternatives to optimize conveyance and treatment solutions. Focused on minimizing peak flows to the wastewater treatment plant, this approach assesses a range of strategies, including storage facilities, real-time control mechanisms, pumping options, and other alternatives. Furthermore, the Trinity River Authority automates the hydraulic model verification process using InfoWorks ICM and Optimizer, eliminating previous manual inefficiencies. This automation enhances accuracy and efficiency, ensuring the reliability of the hydraulic model and providing a robust foundation for future projects.

Info360 Asset Data-Driven Sewer Planning: Aqua America's Integrated Planning for Sewer Systems
Aqua America is a large water and sewer utility serving eight U.S. states. The utility faces the challenge of efficiently maximizing the management of aging infrastructure in more than 50 wastewater systems in Pennsylvania alone. In 2023, Aqua contracted GHD to implement a Consolidated Planning Level Sewer Program in Pennsylvania, addressing dispersed data sources of condition assessment data and best practices for capital improvement planning at the state, regional, and local levels. This presentation will address the obstacles encountered during the project, and showcase the integration of the Autodesk Info360 Asset and Esri ArcGIS Online cloud platforms to help Aqua efficiently manage significant volumes of closed-circuit TV (CCTV) inspection and other condition assessment data—along with tools to prioritize the riskiest assets, identify projected rehabilitation approaches, and establish capital improvement budgets.

Identifying Critical Water Infrastructure for Strategic Resilience and Risk Planning with InfoWorks WS Pro and Info360 Asset
Aging infrastructure combined with limited funding and tightening regulations are causing great stress on water networks. Water assets are considered critical based on their likelihood and consequence of failure. The consequence of a critical pipe failure could lead to outages, severely disrupting daily activities and access to drinking water—in addition to the financial implications associated with property damage, road closures, and manufacturing disruptions. The path toward mitigating such risk starts with hydraulic modeling in conjunction with sound asset-management practices built into Info360 Asset software. In this session, we'll showcase InfoWorks WS Pro software's critical link analysis to automate criticality simulations, where areas of the network are isolated, and the corresponding level of service impacts are reported. Next, we'll make this data available in Info360 Asset to perform risk analysis, develop rehabilitation decision trees, and ultimately prioritize capital spending.

Revolutionizing the Maintenance of Water Infrastructure: An Innovative Collaboration with Northumbrian Water Group
In this cross-industry collaboration between Northumbrian Water Group (NWG) and the Autodesk Technology Centre in Birmingham, England, we're solving the challenges NWG has maintaining water infrastructure. By employing advanced manufacturing techniques—such as laser scanning, reverse engineering, and hybrid manufacturing—NWG can work with its supply chain to repair broken parts and extend the operating lives of the assets they maintain. NWG is responsible for many assets that were manufactured decades ago, and the original design data is no longer available, causing excessively long lead times for replacement parts. As a result, the downtime for key national infrastructure water systems is prolonged and costly. We will show how this important collaboration between the water and manufacturing industries will reduce the downtime and extend product life, improving NWG's resilience, and ultimately saving money for customers.

Get the Most from Your Point Cloud: Automated Feature Extraction
In this session, we'll walk through an end-to-end cloud-centered workflow on using large point-cloud data for detailed design using ReCap Pro software and the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform. We will share simple tools to prepare surfaces, intelligently decimate large point-cloud data, publish to Autodesk Construction Cloud, and collaboratively extract design elements (like curbs, gutters, median, walls, ADA ramps, driveways, and drainage breaklines) and assets via browser and take them into detailed design technology like Civil 3D software to generate highly accurate surface models. Users can also publish the extracted features and assets to ArcGIS to use the information across the organization. This is a workflow the point cloud industry has been wanting for decades!
