In this session, you’ll learn how MDT is using AASHTOWare Project, Civil 3D software, Trimble Business Center, and Esri technology to develop a lifecycle approach for civil infrastructure projects.

In São Paulo, Brazil’s largest city, modeling underground infrastructure involves complex technical and data challenges. This case study will present the first Brazilian project to apply SCAN-2-BIM with IFC 4.3 interoperability in an active metro tunnel—part of the Line 2-Green extension, more than 40 meters deep. Reality capture was done entirely with terrestrial laser scanning (TLS). The point cloud was semantically classified and feature-extracted in ReCap software. Modeling was automated using Civil 3D software with Dynamo and Subassembly Composer, while coordination and export were handled via Navisworks and IFC 4.3 from Civil 3D. The team overcame issues of data volume, accuracy, and integration. This pioneering project also defined asset-agnostic workflows for SCAN-2-BIM in linear infrastructure—scalable and reusable across future projects.

Orange County Sanitation District (OC San) is a public agency responsible for collecting, treating, and safely disposing of wastewater and its residuals for 2.6 million residents and businesses in Orange County, California. OC San operates and maintains two large treatment plants, 15 pumping stations, and about 390 miles of sewer with 4,500 manholes. OC San faces the challenge of fixing aging infrastructure with increasingly limited resources. In 2023, OC San contracted Autodesk to help them implement Info360 Asset software with the goals of standardizing CCTV inspection data collection and management, and enabling the development of risk models for sewer assets in the collections system. In this presentation, OC San will showcase the use of Info360 Asset to manage and analyze the volumes of geographic information system (GIS) and CCTV inspection data to best prioritize the riskiest assets.

Ishimoto Architects and Engineers, founded in 1927, is an architectural design firm with experts in architecture, structure, and MEP. To achieve better architecture, it’s essential to integrate intelligent models across disciplines and adopt a holistic design approach. We use Revit software to create simulation environments and optimize overall designs. Currently, Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism is accelerating BIM-based building permit submissions, requiring intelligent models with vast amounts of data. As BIM managers who also practice design, we can immediately address real-world challenges and provide feedback. For mid-sized firms without dedicated BIM teams, this agile approach is a practical way to integrate BIM smoothly. This session will share how our practices have transformed our project processes.

This interactive lab will be an accelerator that will teach BIM coordinators and CAD managers how to effectively use Construction Cloud to manage civil infrastructure projects with modern cloud-based tools. We’ll take an immersive approach to learning: The class will be split up into disciplines, simulating a real project. The disciplines will work together to federate a project model using preprepared files. We’ll start with the basics of recommended file organization in Docs, set up our coordination space in , walk through best practices for exporting and coordinating discipline-specific models, run a mock clash-detection meeting, create/organize and report on our Construction Cloud Issues, and then archive our project simulating a milestone submittal. Many of the default coordination tools in Construction Cloud are built with vertical construction in mind. But there’s a world of value for horizontal construction as well—you just have to know how to unlock it!

We’ll take you on our journey, and share the valuable lessons learned during each stage of the transition from BIM 360 software to Construction Cloud. As an Autodesk strategic partner, Fugro developed GeoDin Ground app for Civil 3D software to transform infrastructure design by providing designers and civil engineers with contextual and comprehensive ground data through an integration with GeoDin, a leading geotechnical data management, analysis, and reporting software. The GeoDin Ground app allows designers to see into the ground. How does this work exactly? We’ll show and teach you all the major insights in this session. We’ll import geotechnical data directly into Civil 3D, visualize boreholes, and create surfaces and volumes with GeoDin Ground. Finally, we’ll analyze geotechnical data between surfaces and create volume reports. And we’ll demonstrate the benefits of visualizing and analyzing infrastructure in combination with ground layers.
