This session will be a panel discussion from Women in BIM related roles discussing the impacts of diversity and inclusion on the construction industry. The questions will be focused on how the impacts of BIM have affected the industry globally and how we can address these issues of skills shortages by retaining and supporting diverse groups such as women. Our class is also aimed to bring together our global community of Women in BIM members which we have now grown to over 800 people. We hope these numbers will continue to grow and begin to support how some of the above issues can be addressed.

With almost a million downloads worldwide, the Autodesk BIM interoperability tools—which include the Model Checker for Revit software—have become the industry standard in reviewing Revit models. This tool is now available for your BIM 360 models! Built on Forge, the Model Checker on Forge tool can review all your models and generate reports on their compliance with the checks you define. Whether pass/fail, counts, or lists, you can view the check reports individually and easily put them into a Microsoft Power BI dashboard. Model Checker lets you select multiple models and define schedules, and, of course, it runs automatically in the Autodesk cloud. This session will be a thorough study of this amazing new tool, including how to use it and tips and tricks.

Providing construction project teams with complete, accurate, and construction-ready design documentation is one of the best ways to ensure that design intent is met during construction. During the design process, there are many stakeholders that play a role in development of design documentation—from architects and CAD managers, to virtual design and construction teams, owners, contractors, and trades. But not everybody works in the same location or at the same time. Using the cloud to support collaboration during the design process can connect these stakeholders, and this class will discuss how to easily bring designs from AutoCAD software, Revit software, Civil 3D software, and AutoCAD Plant 3D software into Construction Cloud to support cloud-based collaboration.

Design teams are becoming increasingly geographically diverse. Architects, designers, and consulting engineers for projects of any type or scale could be located in multiple organizations, offices, states, and even countries. How do you get the entire team to collaborate effectively in a BIM (Building Information Modeling) environment? BIM 360 Design is a cloud-based service that eliminates many of the obstacles of other collaboration solutions. This session is designed to highlight the benefits and limitations of BIM 360 Design, and to provide guidelines for building trust within a design team and managing expectations for success. Specific topics will include working in a high-trust environment, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the BIM 360 Design environment, identifying potential BIM 360 Design pitfalls and learning how to avoid them, discovering the importance of a BIM deployment plan for BIM 360 Design projects, and reviewing BIM deployment guidelines for projects that will utilize BIM 360 Design.

It helps you organize and manage your account data, including project profiles, partner company profiles, and user management. It also lets you connect third-party apps to your account to help you integrate with your ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and other business systems, or take advantage of the growing number of third-party apps. The BIM 360 Product Management Team will review the recent enhancements to the Administration module and share priorities of our product road map. Come learn about best practices in account and project setup. We will also discuss administration best practices that will help you optimize your BIM 360 for data capture and set it up for better analytics in the future. You will have the opportunity to interact with our Product Management Team and share feedback and discuss road map items.

At Autodesk University 2018, we unveiled our innovative approach to deploying high-definition 3D laser scanning on cast-in-place concrete projects in San Francisco the day prior to concrete placement, analyzing the 3D point cloud against the BIM, and delivering a highly detailed report of deviations the following morning that the construction team could use to rectify any out-of-tolerance elements prior to concrete placement. The result was the highest quality ever achieved on CIP projects. The logical next step was to look inward at our process, software, and hardware for efficiency and quality gains, then look outward for other solutions. We deployed, tested, and analyzed the data from the following reality capture solutions in our quest to see if there truly is one tool that rules them all. We’ll compare the results from each unit and suggest the appropriate application for each. It’ll be a showdown between Leica RTC360 (LiDAR), Leica BLK360 (LiDAR), UAV (LiDAR), Matterport Pro2 (photogrammetry), and UAV (photogrammetry)

The construction industry worldwide loses hundreds of millions of dollars because of the rework caused by the lack of the latest information and construction documents available at the right time to the field executives. However, this changed with BIM 360 Docs software, which enables the flow of the latest accurate information from the office to the field executives without any delay. With BIM 360 Docs, the field executives can even view the documents offline. This class explains in detail how this process is performed and maintained throughout the construction process. We will be showcasing a project in Australia where BIM 360 Docs is helping users provide the latest construction documents to the field executives.

With the advent of a more distributed workforce, a digital-first system of design and record has become more important, if not required. Communications and work between office and the field has also demonstrated a higher demand for a GIS + BIM solution. One way to ensure that all stakeholders are kept up-to-date is to maintain a digital twin of a project. There are many ways to acquire reality capture data, but one of the more common ways is by using a drone. The challenge is creating a distributed way of sharing the status of the project with the design. In this demo, we will walk through how to use 3D design files from Revit in Esri's ArcGIS Online so that they can be used in conjunction with reality data to model the as-built conditions of the project. Once the reality data has been processed, the data can be published straight to BIM 360 for import into Civil 3D or Navisworks for clash detection and other advanced workflows.

We will cover the various techniques used in the film and television industry when dealing with sensitive sites or locations. This class will also address the use of ReCap Pro software for reality capture using point clouds with photogeometry and exporting the appropriate file format when importing into Revit software to assist in the manipulation of the site design (set design). We’ll examine use of storyboard techniques translated by production designers to create construction documents and renderings for both site location and set designs (exterior and interior) with Revit and 3ds Max software. We’ll also learn how cloud collaboration improves the workflow between various disciplines within the art department and production show runners for faster turnaround using virtual reality walk-throughs. We’ll also examine immersive design with the use of augmented reality and mixed reality to determine what is actually constructed, what is virtually constructed, and what is sent out for fabrication when constructing film sets.

BIM (Building Information Modeling) integration in MEP designs streamlines project delivery by introducing a sophisticated plan early in the process. BIM is redefining MEP integration by resulting in material cost savings and decreased production time that translates into further cost savings. MEP integration on a BIM platform streamlines material procurement, which ensures that material estimation is reliable and that production cost is saved by avoiding over-ordering. In this class, we will explain how MEP contractors can use BIM in MEP integration to get a bird's eye view of different segments, right from the ceiling elevations, to the plumbing layout, and through other MEP systems. We will focus on exploring how BIM is redefining integrated MEP design and ensuring reduced production costs. Also, we will discuss how integrating different analysis software with the intelligent model is revolutionizing MEP integration.

During our daily office routines, we must accomplish several repetitive and time-consuming tasks to meet client requirements and international standards. Some of these tasks are easy to automate; others seem limited by desktop computing resources and require human intervention. With the evolution of machine learning and introduction of the Forge Design Automation API, EMDC Group was able to automate some of those processes, thus saving tremendous amounts of time and improving our team's efficiency. This class aims to present a sample of what we've built in house to give attendees an idea about the tasks that can nowadays be automated and the potential that artificial intelligence and cloud computing introduce into the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry.

The steps from conception to design to construction to handover form quite a fragmented process. Not only are people coming and going, stakeholders changing, and risks shifting throughout the processes, but the tech stack supporting the process is fragmented, creating data silos and interoperability gaps. It’s no wonder that projects are coming in over budget, behind schedule, and suboptimally optimized for operations and maintenance. This presentation will take a step back and peel back the layers of this complex, fragmented process. We’ll explore how a design-driven, data-centered workflow managed through BIM 360 software from construction to handover closes the loop in the building continuum. This will close the loop in the value chain so that stakeholders can communicate more effectively for the most value-driven design, construction, and operation of a building.

Learn how to share models from Revit software to BIM 360 Docs software using BIM 360 Design software, and then how to use this model in BIM 360 Model Coordination for Clash Detection, reviewing clash with team, creating issues, and more. Model Coordination provides a shared space to publish, review, and run clashes on your latest set of project models and upload 3D models to a centralized Model Coordination folder, and the clash service automatically locates any issues in those models. BIM 360 Design is a cloud work-sharing and design-collaboration product built for distributed, multidisciplinary teams. With BIM 360 Design, you can co-author Revit models in the cloud, control work-sharing activities, and coordinate deliverable exchange across teams.

How do you successfully implement BIM (Building Information Modeling) processes in projects with uncompromisingly tough deadlines? In a lightning-fast project environment, certain challenges present themselves repeatedly. At WeWork, we’ve delivered close to 2 million square feet of office space in the last two years in London alone.
