This session will walk through how catchments or watersheds can be automatically generated using a surface model and assigned to drainage networks as part of a concept design in Civil 3D software. Ultimately, with the Civil 3D InfoDrainage integration tool, we'll show how you can bring all the data across to InfoDrainage and use its more extensive runoff routing methods and rainfall generation tools to set up and simulate hydrology, and accurately size up the drainage network.

As new programs are developed and implemented across the construction and design worlds, it can be difficult to discern how specific tools are helpful. The development level of hydraulic modeling applications enables their use in various everyday situations in the water industry throughout the entire lifecycle of assets, not only in the design and specification stages. The development of information flows in each phase of asset life enables integration and interoperability between design applications (Civil 3D or InfraWorks software), geographic information systems (ArcGIS), and hydraulic modeling software (InfoWorks WS PRO software). This new dynamic enhances the use of these tools together, extracting the best result as quickly and accurately as possible, both in the design phase and also during operations and maintenance. With today's rise in construction, design costs, and extremely tight budgets for CAD work, we must ensure we are using the most-efficient methods in Civil 3D software to meet project demands. We can easily go over budget by overmodeling in Civil 3D. Conversely, when we fail to properly use Civil 3D tools, we can waste time and money. So herein lies the question: When do I fully model and design something, and when do I draw some polylines? When do I hold, and when do I fold? Let's take a journey into how a complex corridor model may not be best for a site plan where a feature line is sufficient. A simple polyline can represent and benefit more than a full creation of a pipe or pressure network system. As we look at keeping some things simple, there are times to make all the abilities of Civil 3D work for us. Longer roadway projects may require conditional corridors and complex targeting. How much is too much? There comes a time to think through all scenarios—or just simply show the cards.

As roadway construction technology advances, bridging design data to construction requirements becomes critical. Optimizing point codes in digital delivery modeling offers numerous benefits. We'll explore crafting subassemblies to unveil corridor point codes for feature line development and transitions. By employing these subassemblies, we'll demonstrate corridor visualization using point and link code styles for design analysis and surface creation. Additionally, we'll develop tailored code sets for diverse digital delivery needs like IFC, exporting attribute-rich data from corridor codes. Lastly, we'll optimize point code organization for feature lines extraction, aiding survey construction modeling and design verification.

This session will provide hands-on instruction in the use of the Grading Optimization extension in Civil 3D software. We'll explore the product features and put the software to use on a commercial/retail development project. The instruction will use many of the included grading objects (i.e., building pads, curbs, drain lines, ponds, and more) to quickly develop a proposed surface, and import the results back to Civil 3D.

Subassembly Composer for Civil 3D software is an amazingly powerful tool for anyone who uses corridors in Civil 3D. There are so many situations where the built-in subassemblies just won't get you what you need. In this class you'll get a chance to build your own subassemblies and see them in action in Civil 3D. We'll start off with a simple shape, and then continue on to something more complex with targets and logical decisions.

Many building site projects live in 2 worlds: everything inside the building, and everything outside the building. The 2 worlds only come together after an excessive amount of swearing and hours of unnecessary time spent. But does it have to be that way? Absolutely not. Coordinating Revit software and AutoCAD Civil 3D software doesn't have to require a degree in nuclear physics, and this session will show you how. Co-presented by a Revit and an AutoCAD Civil 3D specialist, you will gain an understanding of the expectations for each platform, and learn how to configure them. With coordinated model locations in place, we'll define effective practices for exchanging data between Revit software and AutoCAD Civil 3D software. Using the full potential of each coordinated design model, you will learn how to assemble your project in the context of its surroundings using InfraWorks software, and you'll learn how to generate a virtual reality scene.

Caltrans, in coordination with our software partners Autodesk, Trimble, and ESRI, is in the process of developing a digital geospatial ecosystem to centralize, standardize, and connect Caltrans' digital data across programs and divisions. New tools in Civil3D 2024 and Trimble Business Center have been developed and are being tested to assist with the needed data interoperability. The system aims to increase engagement, equity, innovation, integrity, pride, safety, climate action, stewardship, and efficiency by using tools of today and working with industry to develop tools of tomorrow. This Caltrans effort will support FHWA initiatives such as BIM4I to streamline data connectivity for Project Delivery and create, maintain, and provide access to a statewide digital catalog of Caltrans assets. The proposed milestones include beta testing new industry tools, creating project delivery dashboards, integrating digital as-built data from Construction's connected data environment, and developing new project delivery products such as mapping on demand and augmented reality in the field.

Due to their nature, rail infrastructure projects greatly benefit from the adoption of workflows based on intelligent models and point clouds to allow off-site analyses without the need of the physical presence on the field. FSTechnology, a division of the Italian Railways, set up this workflow based on an integration of Autodesk software—including Autodesk Construction Cloud, Revit software, and Civil 3D software—with Esri ArcGIS GeoBIM. We combined CAD, building information modeling (BIM), point clouds, and orthophotos with geographic information system (GIS) and game engine technologies and added the construction program in a browser-based 4D solution with issue tracking. This is not only intended to monitor the progress of the physical works being executed, but also to achieve better control during the maintenance phase of the railways. All these combined and advanced technologies help us to monitor the most-critical infrastructures like viaducts and bridges, and factors of environmental interest and relevance, supported by artificial intelligence.

There are many main subjects for asset management, including maintenance building, earthworks platform, permanent way, overhead lines, signaling, and telecommunications. One specific aspect to the country is to have external project design offices and many subcontractors, using multidisciplinary design management based on Autodesk technologies, including Revit, Civil 3D, Inventor, InfraWorks, and Autodesk BIM Collaborate products. The geographical aspect is taken into consideration through connected building information modeling (BIM) and geographic information system (GIS).
