Exchanging data between applications is a favorite problem in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC). We risk undersharing and oversharing, we worry about working on different versions of a project, and we find our data formats have become compatible! While desktop software systems are the powerhouses driving design and engineering workflows, we need to communicate beyond our desks, often through rapidly changing distributed cloud interfaces. We've been talking about reading and writing data to a shared cloud in Forma software for a while—and now it’s time to get our hands dirty! Follow along on your laptop or just enjoy the show. We'll walk through how Forma data is structured and why it’s structured this way, and then we’ll use Dynamo to read and write data from the desktop to the cloud. No skills in Dynamo are needed, but if you can, feel free to follow along. Dynamo will be used to show programmers and nonprogrammers the way that Forma data can be created, edited, and searched from really any application or environment.

ATP has developed a systematic workflow to start a project in the right way. We’ve been using Revit intelligent modeling since 2011, and have identified it as the most precise tool for integrated planning across all phases of a construction project. Decisive planning from the start leads to intelligent models with high-level content, even at an early stage. What kind of Information should flow from a project manager to the design team? Which parameters need to be specified as early as possible, so that the data can later be used for cost management, tendering, and construction—as well as for lifecycle analysis? Preparing a solid planning foundation at the beginning of a project using BIM leads to an efficient and clearly structured project flow, eliminating the need for duplicate work processes, and ensuring a smooth path through all project phases. It allows for cost transparency and clarity from the start, avoiding unforeseen costs and leading to higher rate of client satisfaction.

This session will be an introduction to a sustainable workflow initiative that uses the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to reduce lead times from the design phase to construction by up to 60%. Building upon the success of A-SPEC (the existing automated restroom design cloud service) initially introduced during AU 2021, we proudly introduce "A-SPEC Plus,” our newest generation of design process that uses the latest AI algorithms. The inclusion of advanced AI in this upgrade allows for the creation of restroom layouts/plans that prioritize user comfort and spacious designs. In addition to the plan proposals created based on the new design logic, A-SPEC Plus significantly reduces lead time from design to construction with very little input by using the capabilities of Construction Cloud and Autodesk Platform Services. Potential applications of this technology extend far beyond restroom design. It also offers a scalable automated design solution for various building spaces and interior designs.

Industrialized construction is growing rapidly in North America and globally. This session will survey current best-practices related to successful business models in offsite/industrialized construction and prefabrication including an innovative example from Ladacube, where we are seeing adoption, and digital tools that can support growth. Finally, this session will synthesize what we've learned to-date to highlight promising forward-looking practices and technologies which will enable additional growth of IC/offsite construction going forward.

Capturing progress data directly from the construction site is essential for streamlining the daily responsibilities of project superintendents. The availability of building information modeling (BIM)-based data in the Autodesk Build Assets tool, together with augmented reality (AR) progress reporting from sites through GAMMA AR, now provide an intuitive and reliable approach to progress tracking. Our case study will focus on the successful implementation of these technologies in a hospital project led by Batson-Cook Construction, a KAJIMA Company. We'll detail the strategies employed to effectively organize site teams for optimal data collection, the structuring of intelligent models to facilitate accurate progress tracking, and the automated processes we developed to maintain project schedules and timely payments. The presentation will conclude with a summary of best practices and essential insights gained from the experience.

Storytelling has been present within architecture as long as the domain itself has existed. Initially, it was done with hand representations of volumes and narratives told over the sheets of paper. As the technology progresses, new ways of telling stories emerge: Renderings became easier and cheaper, causing their function to evolve. Industry saw a shift from only using them for end results (artifacts) to real-time renderings focused on driving communication and decision making. Now, with the democratization of AI, we are facing new possibilities: Visualization for ideation, but also for even faster creation of realistic outputs. This opens the doors for more-effective, data-driven storytelling throughout the design stages. In this live demonstration of the Veras extension within Autodesk Forma and Revit software, we'll show you how to easily create stunning visualizations and convert them to create compelling, data-driven storyboards throughout design stages using Autodesk Forma.

There are still obstacles to sustainable design. Construction professionals know they must build faster, more efficiently, and more sustainably to meet global demands. The industry is moving away from waste and inefficiency, and is adopting smarter processes, connected teams, and workflows that ensure the right people have access to the data they need to make timely and confident decisions. That's why we need Revit software as a modeling tool; Autodesk Forma software with its conceptual design capabilities, predictive analytics, and design automation to help us to select the most-sustainable options in the early stages of the design process; Autodesk Docs software as our common data environment (CDE) and single source of truth; Design Collaboration to manage the exchange of design data between all project teams; Model Coordination for running efficient model coordination and automatic clash detection; Autodesk Build software for improved project, cost, and safety management; and Autodesk Takeoff software for early quantifications and estimations.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and generative design (GD) are transforming the architecture, engineering, and construction industry toward a more efficient design process. But is the built environment in danger of losing social and equity values as a result? The powerful combination of GD and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) has the potential to assist architects in improving building functionality and sustainability, enhancing value for architects, developers, and residents. However, ethical and social sustainability values may be overlooked if the metrics of the GD and GAI are not instructed to identify and prioritize them. This class will combine findings from a multidisciplinary research project from Carnegie Mellon University, and real-life architectural projects by HED. Learn how to prioritize important equity and social sustainability values in human-in-the-loop AI powered design frameworks, making ethical and socio-sustainable design decisions measurable and transparent to all stakeholders, for a more equitable and resilient built environment.
