Introduced at Autodesk University 2019, Construction Cloud brings together the most powerful portfolio of construction management software products in the industry, supporting workflows spanning all phases of construction—from design, to planning, to building, to operations. There is tremendous breadth of supported workflows, depth of capabilities in each of the software products, and connectivity of data between those products. Over the past year, Autodesk has focused on three main areas of advancement with Construction Cloud: continuing investment into improving Assemble, BuildingConnected, PlanGrid, and BIM 360 software; delivering more integrations and connectivity between the products; and building a unified platform. This class will show how Construction Cloud has advanced over the course of the last 12 months, and we’ll explore the workflows from design through operations that can be supported by the products.

Starting a project off on the right foot not only requires having a schedule and budget in place, but also having clear processes and communication with your forepersons and trades. Learn how different project leaders have set up PlanGrid to optimize for field adoption. Learn how technology can help teams create trust and accountability from the field to the office.

PlanGrid has been taking the construction world by storm ever since its creation in the early 2010s. Thousands of projects throughout the world have utilized this product, and it is widely used by general contractors as well as subcontractors. This class will go through custom field workflows for PlanGrid, and will be centered around the PlanGrid mobile app. We will touch on several different field workflows that are being used in the construction industry today and how they can be performed all in PlanGrid’s mobile app. This course will go beyond the basics of PlanGrid and will enable learners to see how easy and intuitive PlanGrid is, even when performing advanced field workflows.

When we, one of the larger MEP design-build contractors on the US West Coast, decided to replace PlanGrid, our mission was clear: We want to update our tool suite, and quickly standardize data quality across all projects. But a platform decision is more than just a tool swap. This session will walk you through the generalized strategic framework that we used to evaluate, select, and roll out Autodesk Forma (formerly Autodesk Construction Cloud) as the enterprise backbone for both office and field teams. Learn how a three-stage rollout from exploration, a year-long pilot with rigorous standardization, and a fine-tuned enterprise deployment delivered measurable results: unified dashboards, and a data foundation that helps us to build custom solutions with Autodesk Platform Services.

This masterclass will cover how to link PlanGrid with next-generation BIM 360 Docs software by utilizing the power of data collection through BIM 360 workflows and PlanGrid field reports. The speaker will be able to demonstrate the added benefit of being able to maximize data for trend analysis via Microsoft Power Bi and automatic modeling by integrating the output with Dynamo software. We will cover basic principles of PlanGrid and usability for the average user, alongside best practices, work-arounds, shortcuts, limitations, and benefits. We will explore an array of case studies, giving live project application examples and how they’ve integrated with external tools, such as What3Words.

Construction Cloud is today being used across a large range of projects globally. This session will demonstrate a number of use cases, including how PlanGrid is helping build and maintain railways, Assemble is being used to quantify materials in dams, BuildingConnected is being used to source subcontractors for road projects, and BIM 360 software is being used to manage complex infrastructure projects. We will also show how Autodesk partners are being used in conjunction with Construction Cloud products to help infrastructure asset owners better use the data collected on a project.

As an engineering firm, how do you implement PlanGrid in a department where the vast majority of projects are small, and the general contractor is not using any of these tools? We had to tweak and adjust what seems to be the intended use of PlanGrid to match our needs. We had our road map all plan for and then Covid sent all of our employees home. It forced us to reconsider our entire approach of deployment and management. At the end of the day, using tablets with PlanGrid allowed us to maintain business continuity while keeping our staff safe as they didn’t have to go to the office and plot drawings.

Join us as we have a candid and in-depth discussion about how Clayco, Inc., transitioned to the Autodesk Construction Cloud software Autodesk Build from BIM 360 and PlanGrid. This session will cover in detail the specific areas of our Autodesk Build implementation, including how we redefined account admin standards on roles and companies, how projects were onboarded to the new platform, and how Clayco, Inc., took a measured approach to its rollout of Autodesk Build modules. We will provide extensive lessons learned from our adoption, and tips on how we track the effectiveness of our Build rollout. In general, attendees will develop a deeper understanding of how a large design builder develops a framework to carefully scale up its adoption of Autodesk Build throughout its enterprise. This includes having direct and open feedback channels with key internal stakeholders, being transparent with Autodesk product managers on where improvement is specifically needed, and iteratively refining training content over time.

Throughout the last six years, Autodesk has been active in the construction technology space, having spent more than $1.5 billion in acquiring innovative solutions such as PlanGrid, BuildingConnected, and, most recently, Payapps. In parallel, we continue to be the leading strategic investor in construction technology startups, with investments such as Aurigo, Bridgit, and Eyrus. "If you want the same result, do the same thing. If you want something different, do something different." These words from the speaker’s leadership hit home when first heard as a young virtual design and construction (VDC) engineer after grinding through the first coordination project. After hitting road blocks with communicating issues in the coordination process, losing information in too many repositories, wasting time running back and forth to the trailer, and not having the data to learn what to do different, the speaker and team have created smarter workflows and processes to better plan, do, check, and perform their efforts.

Businesses waste more than trees when they rely on paper documentation to do work. They waste money. They waste time. They invite liability. Every day, businesses in our industry continue to place valuable information that can protect them on paper in the trailer, where it can get lost or damaged, or be inaccessible when needed. If you’ve ever struggled to put together a complete record drawing set or fished through boxes of loose papers for a safety document, you know how frustrating it can be to do your job with antiquated processes. In this class, we’ll show you how to get set up with a program that will help you digitize your field support and safety efforts and bring these processes into the 21st century, using advanced workflows in PlanGrid that go beyond what you can learn from the PlanGrid trainers themselves.

With last year’s acquisition of PlanGrid, there are a lot of questions about when to use PlanGrid and when to use BIM 360 for field collaboration workflows like quality, safety and project management. This class will help to answer those questions and to provide an update on how Autodesk is working towards helping you use the solutions together effectively and efficiently.   Discover the strengths of these best in class, easy to use field collaboration solutions and how Autodesk is working towards integrating BIM 360 and PlanGrid to deliver modern field collaboration solutions to the industry.

Attendees will learn about the real issues involved with rolling new technology out to field teams. We’ll cover the overall view of technology within field operations staff. We’ll go over a brief history of mobile technology, where we’ve come from, and where we’ll be going in the next 10 years. We will present a use case at Hudson yard where we rolled out PlanGrid in the field, and we’ll go over why it worked, what struggles we had, and what major lessons we learned. And we will cover how to develop a technology implantation plan and conduct a tech rollout.

Many of the processes we use to manage construction operations are designed around outdated paper-based workflows. Simply digitizing these paper-based processes is not enough to bring the improvements we need to see in the field. The management of plan revisions, information requests, and product submittal data are critical to a successful buildout, but the traditional paper-based processes used to manage them are slow and limit access to information, resulting in delays and rework. PlanGrid reimagines each of these processes by using digital workflows that enable the entire construction team—from the designers, to the project managers, to the on-site tradespeople—to stay up to date. Learn how to use PlanGrid to manage plan revisions, requests for information, and product submittals in a way that’s more productive and more transparent, all while enhancing collaboration and access to information to reduce delays and rework.
