Lewis Matthew Miller, AIA (senior project manager in University of Southern California's capital construction development department) and Ruby Xuewen Quan (Building Information Modeling program specialist in University of Southern California's Facilities Management Services) will describe current business challenges in USC's ecosystem of building design, construction, and facilities operations, as well as management processes, and resulting losses. The proposed object-oriented architecture of transmission project lifecycle management, acts as a counterpoint to commissioned IoT technologies.

The architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry is heading toward Industry 4.0 and digital twins are a trend. As MEP design processes become more intelligent, digital twins are now feasible to reach and have many advantages ahead. These are powerful and can enable building owners to create smart buildings and operate with less. MEP models and point-cloud scans are more accessible toward more-affordable sensors. How can we use MEP models after project handover to enhance the operation of buildings along their lifecycles? This class will show the process of converting MEP models to digital twins using IoT devices—specifically, how to connect MEP models and sensors together by using cloud technology, Dynamo, and Revit 2020 software. Also, this class will show how to visualize IoT live data with BI dashboards to increase awareness of how people use buildings and to enhance the maintenance process of buildings. Since over two decades ago, when the speaker started the field of large scale 3D printing, no other activity in the field was initiated for over a decade. More recently the number of related developments have been exponentially increasingly. Technologies using various materials and various robotics approaches have been recently under development targeting a multitude of applications including building construction. A historical perspective, a review of current activities and discussion of future prospects focusing on construction for terrestrial and planetary applications of large scale 3D printing will be presented. Potential areas of interface with some current technologies such as CAD, BIM, IoT, etc. will also be discussed.

We hear and see the word "data" all the time. But what does it really mean? Does it even mean anything? Who needs data? Why do you need to collect data? Why is data important, really—it's not BIM . . . is it? Here are 4 questions that facilities managers should ask themselves: How often do you get handed the actual FM data needed for your PM program? How many hours did it take your team to populate the FM data from your last building project? Where is the data you received from your last BIM project? Where are your current operations and maintenance manuals kept and maintained? Now, think how you would deliver this data. Are you delivering this data? Do you want to deliver this data? We will explore all these options in this lecture. We will also discuss whether you need BIM to have data.

ECOFACT is a €12 million, Horizon 2020, EU-funded project made up of 20 consortium members from several European countries aiming at developing an ECO-innovative energy factory management platform using improved dynamic LCA/LCCA toward holistic manufacturing sustainability. The platform will be deployed in four different demo sites: a biscuit factory (Gullon), a Stellantis Group automotive factory (Tofas), a Heineken Group brewery (Athenian Brewery) and a multinational household appliances factory (Arçelik). One team is leading the development of the digital twin platform (DTP), based on Autodesk Forge software and composed of production lines, 3D models, and different applications (material-flow simulations, energy simulations, production planning and scheduling, industrial energy disaggregation, and industrial energy flexibility). The DTP will display simulation results and real-time Internet of Things (IoT) data alongside the 3D models maximizing Autodesk Forge functionalities.
