Our team created a digital twin of retail store located in the shopping mall complex using Autodesk Tandem software–reducing missed inspection time by 90% By combining laser scanning, intelligent modeling, and asset element and IoT sensor data in Tandem extended through our mobile app, we empower plant management to monitor assets and make more-informed business decisions. Dawood integrated our native mobile application—built with Flutter, Supabase, and BuildShip—to record equipment inspections. Elements are tagged with QR codes, enabling rapid information access. This allows for data exchange between the mobile app and digital twin using the Tandem API—making it the single source of truth. This allows on-site engineers to access information on the go to complete daily inspections and send inspection data to the digital twin so that management can assess and respond to events in real time. Automated reminders reduce incidents.

With new technologies emerging, we're always on the road to explore the digital factory. In this class, we'll share the best practices and approaches regarding the digital factory. First, drive increased efficiency of the factory design and optimization based on CAD workflow and FlexSim process simulation, which is essential for the digital factory. Next, ensure the objects can be tracked throughout the whole lifecycle; we built a "Factory Object TAG Rules" system for digital delivery. Finally, connected IoT devices help realize digital twins to streamline, automate, and predict tasks. And we explore AI to reinforce human intelligence so that it can achieve more.

Saudi Arabia is undertaking a monumental task: constructing the world's largest coral reef nursery in the Red Sea to preserve and reproduce coral reefs for future generations amidst rising temperatures. Egis, as the Project Management Consultant for this endeavor, has harnessed the Autodesk environment to establish a seamless workflow from Revit to ACC to Tandem, facilitating the creation of a digital twin for the project. Tandem serves as the singular source of truth for this initiative, consolidating documentation and models from ACC, along with real-time data from IoT devices to monitor conditions conducive to coral growth in vitro. Interest in the Internet of Things (IoT) continues to grow as governments, companies and individuals begin to realize the potential that a data-driven world has to offer. This talk explores how the construction industry can use the data it collects via tools like BIM and sensors to feed into the wider IoT agenda and the benefits this could bring. We will discuss how we can utilise the data we collect for a variety of purposes including benchmarking and continuous improvement, while also considering how we can combine our data with data sets from other sectors to create greater insights for the industry, client, and end user. Finally, we will look at how we can manage some of the challenges of being a data-driven industry including data management and storage, pain/gain share, ethical considerations, and the need to recruit staff with different skill sets.

Digital twins can serve as a shadow representation of your assets—be it a building information modeling (BIM) corpus, CAD models of a facility, the equipment instruction manuals, or the interconnect between the systems. Adding sensors to these shadow representations allows for real-time tracking, evaluation, and prediction of facility and asset performance. In this presentation, we will introduce you to our digital twin platform called Autodesk Tandem and its new API. Following that, we will guide you through the process of developing your first digital twin, using the Autodesk Tandem APIs. The class will be a lecture on the EQ house, the actually built architecture that AI and IoT deployed. It was completed in March of 2019. Installed with advanced IoT technology and AI, EQ House is expected to be attached by the owner as if it were life-like architecture. It is installed with varied sensors to perceive environmental status and accumulates data about the owner’s preference by means of “like” buttons from the smart watch. The experimental design, inspection, and fabrication process was also needed to actually realize the futuristic architecture of the EQ House. By using the optimization process, the design period to determine the pattern of the facade decreased by 60% and through the inspection using BIM 360 Docs software and mixed reality decreased 20%, and the fabrication by 25%.

Overhead investment is never taken lightly; but as firms accept betterment as a strategic priority, reality necessitates a space to support our evolving roles.

This new era of technology is driving a lot of innovation in all aspects of design. All product manufacturers are embracing innovation and new technology in order to maintain or advance their current production cycles. But, incorporating new technology and innovative manufacturing practices requires a solid plan, not a wild guess. The path to innovation must start with a thorough analysis of your current process. It is not enough to say, ‘the process is inefficient,” or “new tech will solve our problems.” It is critical to properly outline and identify bottlenecks or over- and under-utilized equipment and practices. Once the process is properly defined, organizations can move beyond reaction-based decision making to predictive-based planning. In this class, we’ll demonstrate how the current Factory Design Utilities may be enhanced with ProModel Process Simulator.
