Intended for intermediate to advanced users of AutoCAD Civil 3D software and InfraWorks software, this class is designed to show civil design professionals techniques and nuances for creating a real-time interactive environment of their site designs using Autodesk's Stingray game engine. This class will consist of a live demonstration showing how to create a "world" out of your site design that can be navigated utilizing an Xbox One controller and a virtual reality headset. Specifically, this class will discuss workflow issues the presenter encountered when constructing a one-square-mile simulation of the urban core of Austin, Texas, utilizing only LIDAR (light detection and ranging) and planimetric data.

In this hands-on lab, you'll use AutoCAD software to create a basic 3D game environment and a side-scrolling 3D game environment. Learn how to create and import street furniture, buildings, vehicles, and other 3D objects using AutoCAD software's Solid, Surface, and Mesh tools. In this session we will cover several methods to move data from practically any 3D design system into Virtual Reality. Have you ever tried to model a t-shirt in 3D CAD?  Probably not. It’s seems simple enough, sure, but go try it. Then come take this AU class. Traditionally, textile design (clothing, apparel, soft goods, etc) represents some of the most complex and intricate cad projects anyone could possibly attempt. First, humans are super difficult to model. Then there’s the actual task of modeling garment layers over top of that model. Finally, when you’re done you’re then rewarded with figuring out what the 3D image actually looks like as a flat pattern. It’s been no wonder that for years textile design has remained analog black magic and digital 3d cad was relegated to nice-to-have visualization exercises.

In this class Fusion user Bill Dieter uses Fusion 360 to actually design soft goods. Bill is a renowned textile industrial designer based in Portland, Oregon who is the President of Terrazign Inc. His product design firm has created innovative solutions for athletes and astronauts (and everyone else in-between) for the last twenty years. Bill has worked with the Fusion team to develop a technique to design garments which combines Fusion 360’s direct and sculpting tools with tactical use of human scan data converted from Autodesk Remake, flat pattern creation technology using 3rd party flattening tool ExactFlat, and finalizing his physical prototypes with perfectly sized mannequins created with the rapid prototyping tool Autodesk 123D Make. The class will cover several real examples that emphasize both the high level process along with various in product cad tips and tricks which he relies upon.

The emergence of consumer-level 3D printers and their use for fabrication of practical objects (instead of prototypes) makes it important to understand their design rules and the physical properties of their output. In this class, we spend some time understanding exactly how these printers work, with a particular emphasis on how a 3D design intent is translated into actual toolpaths. Based on this understanding, you will be able to understand how to manage particular issues that affect printability and strength of parts, such as overhangs, bridges, wall thickness, filament orientation, and more. The class is illustrated with extensive example projects that are in active use in the 3D printing community. Design solutions to 3D printing issues are presented across a range of Autodesk® software, with a strong focus on consumer-level applications.

This class will cover the workflows and processes for integrating AutoCAD Map 3D software with PAVER pavement maintenance management system. We will examine the various issues involved in managing the spatial components of branches, sections, and test locations that are evaluated in PAVER and visualized in AutoCAD Map 3D software. We will showcase the use of Industry Model within AutoCAD Map 3D software as a repository for managing these pavement features. Within AutoCAD software, we will show how to use custom topology tools to validate and fix errors in the pavement geometry. And we will demonstrate how, using display maps and map layers, we can symbolize Pavement Condition Indices (PCI) and other conditions evaluated in PAVER to present pavement structures in a map layout for printing. This class will demonstrate the benefits we have achieved from using reality capture technology in our day-to-day workflows. We have welcomed the adoption of reality capture technology in our experienced architectural office, and in doing so we have seen the rewards. We have a vast depth of work in 19th-century London architecture, and the ability to capture the existing conditions of Victorian architecture and then use this for construction has enabled us to confidently achieve the design outcomes we strive for.

We will demonstrate solutions for the unique requirements of Building Information Modeling (BIM)-ready tunnel projects from predesign to construction, including accurate existing conditions, reality capture, dynamic object systems, extended attribution, subsurface geology awareness, excavation phasing, interoperation with coordinate systems and sloped geometry, level of development (LOD) progression, structural steel and rock bolt layouts, and quantities surveys.
