This session will cover the fundamental Autodesk Fusion workflows necessary for using the Fusion Manufacturing Workspace. Pre-learning will include searching for Fusion Post Processors and Machine Simulation Files on the HSM Posts Landing page to help users obtain the correct tools needed to generate their required NC code for machining components. The session will also explore Modelling for Manufacture workflows, briefly covering the Design Workspace, but focusing on Manufacturing Models and their manipulation. Attendees will then learn about basic machining strategies within Autodesk Fusion, available in the Base version of the software. This session aims to provide attendees, particularly new and exploratory users, with a basic understanding of the Autodesk Fusion Manufacturing Workspace and the qualifications required to use it as their future CAM solution.

This session will provide hands-on instruction in the use of the Grading Optimization extension in Civil 3D software. We'll explore the product features and put the software to use on a commercial/retail development project. The instruction will use many of the included grading objects (i.e., building pads, curbs, drain lines, ponds, and more) to quickly develop a proposed surface, and import the results back to Civil 3D.

Data-driven design in architecture has the potential to drastically enhance the quality of projects. It's not solely focused on enhancing the end result; data-driven design also streamlines the architectural process itself. It goes further than just streamlining tasks; it's about improving the quality of living environments and assuring sustainability. In this session, we'll tell the story of the journey involved in designing a residential building. By combining data from various sources, we looked at the most-optimal options for a case we studied in Warsaw, Poland. Among these sources are passive solar design, green roofs, wind analysis, building materials assessment, energy use efficiency, resource conservation, and waste reduction—reducing carbon footprint. Additionally, we incorporated some urban-scale geographic information system (GIS) data. All of that would not be possible without Autodesk Forma software, which played the critical role. For us, the role of an architect will never be the same after this journey.

In this session, we’ll discuss how design for additive manufacture (DFAM) can influence the performance of additively manufactured parts. This session will focus primarily on laser powder-bed fusion, but concepts can be transferable to other additive techniques. We’ll explore lattices, hollow geometries, and thin walls as common features in lightweight designs, including the challenges that these can pose in design, post processing, and actual performance. Autodesk Research is currently undertaking research to characterize how as-built features perform (mechanically) compared to idealized conditions—generic bulk-material values found in literature. This will enable better representation of these features at the design stage to facilitate more accurate simulation and optimization. Attendees will leave more familiar with DFAM, considerations during the design process, and the impacts these have on overall part performance.

This session will cover the updates made to the Simulation Workspace in Autodesk Fusion 360 over the past few years. There will be four main categories that we will cover in this session: Static Simulation, Dynamic Simulation, Injection Molding Simulation, and Electronics Cooling. We have added a number of new features and capabilities as well as study types in the Simulation Workspace, and we'd like to give you an overview of those capabilities, as well as tips on how to get the most value out of those features

To meet global demand for affordable and sustainable housing, the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry must streamline the design-to-construction process. Modular builders—like Factory_OS—are doing just that by productizing their building systems to generate customizable buildings from a catalog of construction-ready unit types. With Factory_OS, Autodesk Research has developed new design methods that connect their building unit catalog with AI-powered generative design to create multiple design options. This case study demonstrates how new procedural design systems enabled rapid, no-code design exploration while balancing trade-offs between cost, carbon, and habitability. The study also showcases how the prototype made it onto Autodesk Forma using the developer extension model to deliver customized novel design functionality and metrics. Going beyond existing capabilities, Autodesk Research and Autodesk Forma enabled Factory_OS to rapidly and intuitively evaluate new development projects in a data-informed manner.

Hydraulic transients, commonly known as water hammer, pose a serious threat to water distribution systems, as they can often cause catastrophic pipe bursts. Simulating hydraulic transients remains a challenge due to the nonlinear governing equations, limited field data, and a host of operating conditions and requirements. We designed this session based on the adage that "a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.” The purpose is to emphasize the importance of the topic, introduce the fundamentals of water hammer simulation, and caution against common pitfalls that could lead to catastrophic failures of pipes and appurtenances in hydraulic systems. In the session, you will explore case studies that show how InfoWater Pro is used to protect piping infrastructure from potential harm by transients. You will also acquire a solid understanding of InfoWater Pro software's Surge functionality, which will help you analyze and mitigate transients within your own systems.

Learn how high-resolution imagery products like True Ortho imagery, 3D textured mesh, 3D point clouds, and DSM/DTM can set the stage for designing the built environment, provide site-wide content at any scale, and help jumpstart any project. AI and machine learning help identify and extract raster and vector features that give context to the design. These AI features can include building footprints, impervious surfaces, vegetation levels, infrastructure locations, pavement markings, and more. These powerful datasets can be used as the source data for your design or can be further leveraged to create additional content like linear feature extraction, surfaces, contours, and 2D/3D project visualizations.

This class will present a quick and easy-to-use workflow between Maya software and ZBrush. Maya is the industry-standard software for 3D animation, and ZBrush is the industry-standard software for 3D sculpting. Although both are widely used in the industry, it is not common to see beginner tutorials about the workflow and integration between both software systems. This course will try to fill this gap with plenty of examples and best practices. We will show you how to create basic meshes in Maya, how to refine the basic mesh in ZBrush using Live Boolean, how to go back and forth between both programs using the GoZ plug-in, how to export high and low-poly models back to Maya, and how to create textures in ZBrush and apply them to an Arnold shader, among other interesting topics. In the end, you will have a very good grasp of how to use Maya and ZBrush together.

King's College London relaunched it's Engineering department in 2019 with the aim of attracting students and staff to tackle new societal and technological challenges and change the world through interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary education. In this talk I will describe our journey towards a ‘create-first' programme pedagogy flipping the traditional Blooms triangle to deliver a horizontally and vertically integrated curriculum with design and make at the heart. We will reflect on the emerging benefits of scaffolding project-based learning with design and simulation and highlight the improved design, sustainability, and systems thinking skills seen in our students. Our deep-dive will focus on a first-year integrated design course where students work in teams to design, make, and operate a remote-control ship to collect floating waste in a water tank. Our project-based approach exposes students to a range of manufacturing methods. We have created a series of short workshops for 2D cutting, 3D printing, and three-axis milling and we will demonstrate how instructors can use the Fusion 360 API to automate the modelling of engineering components. In this project-based learning module 200+ students use Fusion 360 (and connections with Simulink and Arduino) to develop high fidelity digital twins of a design, build, and test project, while retaining the open-ended nature of design projects and maintaining a common digital thread throughout the experience.

Revit software's MEP Analysis has seen significant advancements in recent releases. However, given the multitude of options available for model generation, it remains a challenge to ensure consistency and efficiency when producing a model that can be used for analysis. This presentation will present a data-driven workflow to efficiently generate a building while providing sufficient detail for room-by-room load calculations and accommodating the ever-present possibility of changes during the design phase of a project. By using powerful Revit tools like schedules, views, and families, the likelihood of generating a clean model is greatly improved. Potential workflows include starting from a 3D model or a 2D plotted or scanned PDF.

The East Bank project—located in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, United Kingdom—provided a rare opportunity to push the boundaries of what's possible in terms of building information modeling (BIM) collaboration and digital delivery. With more than 280 live intelligent models across five buildings, Allies and Morrison, BuroHappold, and Mace had to establish a digital strategy that could facilitate collaborative working across an international team, with a wide range of skills across 70 design and construction teams. This presentation will start from the humble beginnings in the early concept stages, and will take you through the evolution of the BIM strategy over eight years. We'll touch on everything from the use of virtual reality (VR) technology in the design process to complex 3D coordination exercises before the fabrication of building components. Finally, we'll present our use of data analytics platforms to track the development of building asset data, for use in the operation of the buildings.

According to GRESB's 2022 data (the global ESG benchmark for real-estate financial products), 2025 is the estimated average expiration date for the market attractiveness of offices worldwide in terms of meeting CRREM (Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor) energy efficiency standards. In other words, as we move toward net-zero emissions by 2050, the market value of a building that does not achieve the required energy efficiency rating is likely to decrease. It's vital the building sector adopts circular economy principles, moving away from the linear "take, make, dispose" model toward a more sustainable and regenerative approach that prioritizes resource efficiency, reuse, and recycling. Digital twins support the operational phase of a building and develop into digital logbooks, which is crucial at end of life because its help ensure safe and sustainable decommissioning/repurposing, preserves valuable information, and supports compliance with regulations and standards.
