It can be a challenge to manage project files across a large team. Knowing what to put in each drawing can be tricky, especially when considering newer users who can become overwhelmed by complex drawings. In this class, we'll address these issues and solve them with an innovate file structure. We'll show the concept of "incremental" design files that allow many project members to work on simple drawings simultaneously. This isn't your normal divide-and-conquer method. We'll show how this enables new team members to learn on simpler and less intimidating files, preventing delay to the larger design. So, if you still put large amounts of data in a single drawing—such as all the corridors, grading, and finished grade—or all pipe networks in a single file, this class is for you. The architecture, engineering, and construction industry has a long history of using 3D tools for design and planning. Such tools are built for handling large quantities of data, but tend to focus more on physical accuracy than visual fidelity. While new tools are emerging to visualize projects in high-quality 3D before they're built, they're typically solutions that can't easily be extended to work with all the new technologies driving innovation in the video game industry. In this session, we'll cover techniques we've developed for rendering large architectural and infrastructure environments in real time. We'll discuss the challenge of importing these models into the Unity gaming engine, as well as the opportunities it affords in terms of improving fidelity, adding interactivity, and building for multiple platforms, including virtual reality (VR). We'll also discuss practical applications for these techniques, such as multi-user review sessions, public feedback gathering, and interactive training building.

It's a given that your Revit template should be oriented to your company standards and workflows. But wouldn't it be great if your Revit template could also guide project staff in their daily tasks, and provide some model checks and model management workflows? We'll share our goals and methods, what should be in the template, and what and how to store outside. We'll explore the process of cyclical template rebuild in a small or large multistudio company. We'll demonstrate creative use of colors and patterns with view filters to produce accurate documentation and QA model checks. We'll dive into practicalities of clean rebuild, tools, and workflows. We'll discuss commercially available tools, and share our in-house scripts and code. We'll speak from more than 12 years of experience improving Revit templates and their practical implementations multiplied by many experts who worked on our templates during that time.

CADS first presented RebarCAD 3D for Revit software at AU in 2018. We're now nearly seven years into the development of the program, and, as a result, a lot has changed! Detailing rebar in Revit has been made easier and more efficient using additional tools to add special rebar bend types, circular bars, and even the ability to apply "one click" detailing to members using the Smart Detailer. The audit facility provides the user with full and efficient control over all rebar in the model, checking assignment to release and identifying any rebar that does not conform to the customizable preset rebar requirements. Detailers can efficiently output rebar production files directly from the Revit model to the major fabrication systems for production, with just a few clicks. Revision control tools for bar list and release management—combined with the ability to fully lock the rebar type, position, and dimensions in the model—result in complete quality control.

This case study explores how digital transformation happens, starting from the traditional design process and moving to Autodesk Construction Cloud using building information modeling (BIM) tools. It also identifies challenges, the importance of education and training, and the short-term and long-term benefits. The major challenge is the lack of capacity and capability, lack of a common platform, absence of standardization, inconsistencies in workflow and processes, and loss of information. We initiated the transformation by redefining the workflow processes, bringing Autodesk Construction Cloud, standardizing design language and deliverables, creating libraries, and training. This increased adaptation, leading to an increase in efficiency of model development, peer review, design collaboration, design management, and approval by all stakeholders. We were also able to define roles and responsibilities, ensure version control across all stakeholders, and review clash detection, thus improving on-time efficiency, accuracy, and quality of the deliverables by sharing information and collaborating.

A new metro Line, with 19 kilometers and encompassing 15 stations, a maintenance yard, and 2 primary substations, represents a landmark achievement in utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM). A large-scale infrastructure project has set a new benchmark for the industry by implementing a comprehensive BIM (Building Information Modeling) approach, encompassing all disciplines, including geotechnical engineering and laser scanning for connection stations with existing lines. The project has also standardized data using IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) and introduced a new standard for contractual items, including a new contractual measurement method. Automated analyses have been integrated into robotic processes, and a train dynamic models to ensure equipment installations has been utilized and with data management. These innovations have significantly enhanced project quality and established the project as a national reference.

In 2018, HMC Architects created a dedicated digital practice to support the firm's digital transformation. A major pillar of HMC's digital practice is technology training, which serves to develop the "digital IQ" of team members in their adoption of the latest technologies and methods. As the leader of this division of digital practice, the speaker has developed technology training regimens to increase HMC's project teams' technical abilities, implementation of cloud-based collaboration, and other advanced building information modeling (BIM)-based workflows. Today, our technology training has merged with all of HMC's learning and development training with the implementation of a unified learning management system.
