Have you started seeing Revit files from architects or engineers at bid time? Do the projects that your CAD department is currently working on have access to the Revit files? Even if this is not the case, but you would like to take advantage of the Revit Design to Fabrication Parts, this is the class for you. In this class, we will review your options on how to use the Revit file design items into Fabrication Parts directly inside of Revit. Once we've converted the Revit design items, we'll learn how to export a .MAJ file out of Revit and open it with Fabrication ESTmep software. Once we've opened the file in Fabrication ESTmep, we'll look at options to review pricing and labor along with running reports and data exports.

Come and discover the easy way to visually audit your fabrication database without opening a single file. This class will be an introduction to Microsoft Power BI and how it can be used for fabrication content managers. Power BI is a business intelligence software that can aggregate and visualize data from hundreds of different sources and formats to let creators view and share their content like never before. By the end of this class, you’ll understand the steps that you need to create a live, interactive, and shareable dashboard to make your content auditing more efficient at your workplace.

Hit some limits in scripting? Need to be able to do some more advanced calculations on the information in the Fabrication products? This class will help you with some more advanced scripting techniques including hybrid scripting that utilizes other frameworks like autolisp, .net, and the command prompt to do more with the data in the Fabrication products. Knowledge of the Fabrication products is helpful as well as prior knowledge of the fabrication scripting language.

In this session, we will discuss how to propel your company into Revit 2019 software, exemplifying the advantages of using a singular model throughout the preconstruction process. Learn how the Victaulic VDC Team made the transition to Revit to go from design intent to fabrication spools using the improved functionality of Fabrication Parts. In this session, we will take a Revit design model and convert to Fabrication Parts, make design and coordination changes, define and detail fabrication spools, and create all construction documentation—all without ever leaving Revit. Attendees will gain first access to new 2019 software add-ins that streamline this process with prepopulated templates and content libraries. The session will reinforce best workflow practices, and give users the tools they need to take their businesses to the next level.

This session will focus on transfer of steel fabrication elements from Revit software to Advance Steel software and back. There have been many changes in recent years, so for users and managers of these systems, it is sometimes difficult to understand the background process being used. Therefore, we’ll focus upon the various database types, tables, and locations, and what’s used for which parts of the process, so users can understand how to manage this operation in both platforms to achieve a successful collaboration. We’ll see how the correct use of the mapping database and creation of elements in both software systems, as a management operation, enables a smooth transfer, which is very important in multidisciplinary organizations—so CAD managers understand the need for this processing. Have correct Revit families created to the steel fabrication format, materials identified and mapped, and connection instances created.

This class will focus on how to create precast (PC) shop drawings and fabrication models within Revit software. Fabrication will be carried out using drawings, data created, and data extracted from live-model elements. As such, a very high level of detail and efficient data management is critical to the success of a PC project. Additionally, since rework and changes to the model can be destructive to the quality and efficiency of modeling, we'll discuss project workflows that minimize these risks. We'll show the general framework of the fabrication model, including the use of Revit parts and assemblies. We'll discuss strategies for intelligent family creation of connection families that will facilitate the erection and piece drawing creation processes. We'll also discuss how data can be extracted to support the production, delivery, and erection processes. Finally, we'll demonstrate the use of third-party tools by PTAC, AGACAD, and GRAITEC that can be used to enhance model authoring.

This session will propel you into Revit 2018, exemplifying the advantages of using a singular model throughout the preconstruction process. Learn how to go from design intent to fabrication spools using Fabrication Parts in Revit software. In this session, you will convert a Revit design model to Fabrication Parts, make design and coordination changes, define and detail fabrication spools, and create all construction documentation without ever leaving Revit. You will gain first access to new 2018 software add-ins that streamline this process with prepopulated templates and content libraries. This hands-on session will reinforce best piping practices, and give you the tools you need to take your business to the next level.

In this presentation you will see how Advance Steel software manages the connection between design and fabrication through its ability to exchange model information with design products (using Revit Extension for Advance Steel software to transfer and synchronize models between Advance Steel and Revit software), enabling coordination with different disciplines and then outputting the steel-detailing data to fabricators.

Learn how to manage content for Autodesk, Inc.’s, Fabrication Solutions from a database manager’s point of view. We will dive into how to apply fitting dimensions to product-listed information for accurate dimensional content and apply connectors. Then learn how to apply estimating information for reporting of information to be used for ordering, estimating, and job tracking.

As a design-to-fabrication subject matter expert (SME), I get requests twice a week on average from around the world, asking if and how Revit-based software and Inventor software work together, with the most challenging workflow being curtain wall design, fabrication, and installation. In the 2014 release of these products, Autodesk has added technology that vastly improves that workflow. We look at how to use Revit and Inventor together, regardless of which product the design starts in, and we cover all the ways that you can fabricate from either of these products while sharing data back and forth along the way to validate and/or change design intent. We use real-life situations in class as examples, including curtain wall design and concrete formwork, and I encourage participants to bring their own challenges to class for us to tackle together.

This is a follow up to the earlier lecture on performing a fabrication database health checkup. You can use our default data set, or bring a copy of your own database for use in the lab-and you can leave with the real personalized data to use back at your office. Do you know what's in your fabrication database? Do you know what's missing? This lab will show you how to perform a health checkup on your fabrication database so you can make informed decisions about what you need to do. And now that you know what needs doing, how do you do it? How do you do it efficiently? This lab will also show you how to make those changes in an informed and effective manner. The fabrication database is very powerful, but also fragile and complicated. It's common to see mismanagement or even complete lack of management because of fear or effort involved in correcting issues. This lecture will arm you with the knowledge to take charge of your database instead of it managing you.

The rebar fabrication industry has seen great progress in streamlining the rebar supply chain, from rebar estimating through detailing, fabrication, and installation. We can attribute much of this progress to the software that rebar detailers and fabricators use, and to the integration of that software with the fabrication hardware. Still, there's an opportunity for the industry to improve how the rebar design is transformed into the product installed on-site. Attendees will learn how to export 3D rebar detailed in Revit Structure Suite software to a leading rebar MIS (management information system) software product: Applied Systems Associates (aSa). This process will drive fabrication processes in the shop and field. We'll cover many topics, including effective practices for detailing rebar for fabrication, organizing rebar releases in Revit software, exporting data to aSa, and distributing 3D rebar data along the supply chain.

Sustainability and cost efficiency for residential building is more important than ever. We will present with our customer Haas an integrated workflow from the configurator, an automated detailed design process in Revit to fabrication and the construction site. This digital process allows prospects to visually configure and calculate any residential or family timber house. These visualization of the customer's request via the house configurator leads to a faster and high-quality discussion with the customer. Seamless transition from configuration to design in Autodesk Revit ensures that no extra detail design work must be carried out manually. That model is transferred into the fabrication process and finally all data is leveraged via BIM360/ACC BUILD on construction sites for project and quality management and daily logs.
