Many are familiar with the concept of using drones or terrestrial sensors for reality capture techniques. In this session, we will discuss how the advent of new technical advancements in imagery from satellites makes it possible to use sensors from space to develop brand-new, previously unavailable reality workflows. We're going to use satellite imagery from BlackSky satellites processed in Esri's ArcGIS Reality to create accurate scenes and 3D data sets that we can bring into InfraWorks and Civil 3D software to create an immersive product that we can use for site planning, proposals, and construction-progress monitoring. The session will start with an overview of the commercial satellite industry: We will study the different satellite constellations and explore reasons why we would pick one over the other. Then, we will show how to process satellite imagery in ArcGIS Reality. Finally, we'll show how the processed data flows into the Autodesk ecosystem and is used as authoritative data for planning.

The groundwater infiltration model (GIM) has traditionally been reserved for combined sewer systems—but prolonged wet weather response in separated sanitary systems demands a new approach. This presentation will explore how the Trinity River Authority of Texas (TRA) and its consultants redefined modeling practices by applying GIM to better simulate multi-week infiltration events. Historically considered unsuitable for sanitary systems, GIM proved essential for capturing peak flows and volumes critical to treatment-plant sizing, storage planning, and operational strategy. As the design support needs of engineers and managers evolve, TRA’s hydraulic modeling practices have adapted, expanding run durations and improving calibration methodologies. During the delivery of School Bundle 4, BAM executed this aspect of work through BIM 360 Field software and BIM 360 Glue software. The right people captured all relevant asset information on mobile devices at the right time. Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie) was used throughout this process as a way of creating clean, compliant, and standardized data. The COBie data set was progressively enhanced throughout the construction delivery phase. This data set is associated with Building Information Modeling (BIM) objects, and coupled with all other data capture, through BIM 360 Field software, it meant that BAM had a complete data set at project completion stage. BAM facilities management (FM) provided clear guidance as to their asset information needs and ensured no time was wasted in the production of irrelevant asset information. The link formed between Building Ops software and BIM 360 Field software is bi-directional and seamless. The now fully developed asset information model (AIM) is central to the Building Ops software Computer-Aided Facility Management (CAFM) system. All reactive and preventative actions are linked through the AIM. This session features Building Ops, BIM 360 Field, and Revit. AIA Approved

The class will cover the workflows and considerations needed when setting models up in Revit software for export to BIM 360 Glue software to enable these to be used in BIM 360 Field software and then Building Ops software with asset management and operations and maintenance in mind. The presentation will look at how certain data doesn’t flow across the platforms, and we’ll demonstrate alternative work-arounds you can undertake to overcome this. The presentation will look at how to set up your Revit project with the mindset that the models will be used on iPads in BIM 360 Field software, and then we’ll look at how the data will transfer across into the Building Ops application. We will also address which application the data is generated in and we’ll look at examples of who populates this information. We will explore the differences in the Building Ops model viewing appearance, and the considerations that you may want to make when setting up the model at the start of the project with BIM 360 Glue software, BIM 360 Field software, and Building Ops software in mind. This class will explore the implementation of an efficient workflow for 3D scanning of large plants. From laser scanning at the field until a point cloud, which can be combined with a 2D layout and 3D models, our scan projects count regularly more than 100 scans. After the scans are taken, the scans are removed from noise and then divided in layers according to the flow sheet. The buildings are also on a separate layer and divided into roof, walls, and floor. These scans are then combined in Navisworks software with a 3D model of a new line generated at our company. The 3D models are made with Inventor software. A 2D layout, which we receive from the customer, is also attached. This workflow has been improved on a lot since the start, and this is what we want to teach in this class. Recently we purchased a drone to capture photos at places that are not reachable for our scanner (for example, ducting on a roof). A 3D point cloud can then be derived from those photos and combined with the laser scan point cloud This session features ReCap, Inventor Professional, and Navisworks Manage.

They share intermediate and advanced techniques during the workflow process. The live scanning presentation will capture existing room conditions. Once the virtual site is completed, it will be used as a guide to develop an intelligent model by placing parametric content using Revit®-based software scan-to-BIM workflows. This model, created at a level 100, is used to automate the CFD (computational fluid dynamics) workflow. The existing model will illustrate air/fluid flow as it interacts with surrounding solids. The model will be analyzed for proper temperature or thermal influences. Natural ventilation, chilled beams, radiant heat, and displacement ventilation are just some of innovative solutions that will be discussed. How and why to conduct drawingless design and production in large scale construction projects. Get an AHA experience about new ways to work in big projects by all-in-focus on 3D models and BIM data deliverables instead of drawings - to achieve an unbroken flow of digital information. A real example from Sweden's most ambitious BIM-project Slussen in Stockholm. The audience will also learn how to get around all obstacles with old school conservative decision-makers to get the vision to reality. This session will describe why we had to decide to get a zero-tolerance on drawings and how to get a 500 person team to get on board and work in a new digital way in our most conservative industry. I will also show what kind of sharp digital deliverables we are producing for the contractor instead of drawings. This will include information models (BIM), surveying models and models for machine guidance (CAD), 4D sequencing models (NWD), bills of quantity for procurement, technical documents, model specifications, synchronized external BIM databases and Model Views as e-optimised PDF packages (Not regular drawings with measurements). In total 10 different information carriers but NO drawings at all. We will also show how the new deliverables will be used by reviewers and the contractor (Skanska). That will include reviewing in VR with HTC Vive. I will also share my experiences how to use technologies like BIM 360 Collaboration for Revit (CFR) and the use of laser scanned and drone captured existing conditions. The presentation will also reveal how to get around all obstacles with old school conservative decision makers - that kind of information that all digital- and BIM Managers will value a lot. This Project is one of a kind so far - at least in Europe.

In today's complex and fast-paced Digital Prototyping world, architects and engineers need to share data and workflows between Building Information Modeling (BIM) systems and engineering and manufacturing systems. Part families and members defined and managed in the intelligent model need to be passed to engineering to drive detailed modeling, analysis, and ultimately, manufacturing. Likewise, vendors supplying engineered systems to the buildings need to provide their detailed engineering models and data in usable and efficient formats for inclusion in intelligent models. With Autodesk products, you can capture and automate these workflows that are critical success factors in today's large multidisciplinary projects. In this class, you learn about architectures and tools for implementing and automating these workflows and for seamlessly bridging the gap between BIM, engineering, and manufacturing.

This case study demonstrates the benefit of implementing a small 2D domain within an existing 1D InfoWorks ICM model to optimize the size and location of a planned storage facility and reduce overland flooding in a dense suburban neighborhood in the City of Toronto. Recent flooding imagery captured in 2018 and 2020 showed significant flooding in Woodborough Park and visible damage to facilities. The project team planned and designed drainage and storage mitigations by building a small-scale 2D surface model of the park and surrounding catchment area (39 hectares) within the larger 1D InfoWorks ICM model being used to plan and design the Fairbank Storm Trunk Sewer System Project. This approach enabled the designers to optimize the size of the storage facility and realize a 35% reduction in construction costs. We’ll present the approach used to develop the model, and there will be a discussion on what considerations should be given before adopting this approach to ensure the maximum benefit to the project.
