We’ll demonstrate the best practices for using plastic part rules to control your design and capture know-how for easy creation, editing, and reuse. Designing parts for the injection molding process often relies on experience and generic guidelines. Determining the needed geometry for design features can be very time consuming. In this session, we’ll look at how we can streamline this process using Autodesk Fusion 360 software and its extensions. Autodesk Fusion 360 Product Design Extension includes tools for the quick addition of common features, such as snaps and bosses, to Autodesk Fusion 360 parts. Will these features work? Will the snap fail during initial assembly? Will there be sink marks if a boss is molded as designed? Autodesk Fusion 360 Simulation Extension tools for stress analysis and mold-filling simulation help answer these key questions. Now we can catch and correct potential issues early in the design cycle, when there’s still time to react and costs of changes are relatively low.

This industrial case study will cover a recent design-and-make collaboration between Autodesk and Impression Technologies (ITL), an industry-leading, automotive, hot-forming solutions provider. Together we’ll present a comparison of several mold designs across a range of design approaches and manufacturing technologies. We’ll demonstrate how optimizing design for additive manufacturing can be maximized to achieve more-efficient production times and material usage, improved part quality, and reduced part cost and energy consumption. During the project, experts from Autodesk and ITL collaborated via Autodesk CFD software and the Autodesk Fusion 360 platform. We used simulation and several design methodologies, including conformal cooling and the application of lattice structures via the Autodesk Fusion 360 Product Design extension. The project culminated in the tooling production using Autodesk’s Birmingham Technology Centre metal additive manufacturing systems, and testing and validation at ITL’s research facility.

Project MOnACO (Manufacturing Of a large-scale AM Component) is a $1.1 million research collaboration with GE Aviation et al. funded by the Clean Sky 2 program. The focus is to cut noise and emissions from the civil aerospace market using disruptive technologies. The aim is to converge design and manufacturing using the A.T.L.A.S. machine that’s currently the largest metal powder additive manufacturing of its kind (build size >1m). Autodesk is leading the design of the turbine center frame assembly using multiphysics Generative Design in Autodesk Fusion 360, the new product design extension for lattices and manufacturing simulation (Netfabb et al.) workflows geared toward large-scale additive manufacturing. The latest design is 34% lighter than its predecessor, and the components have been consolidated from 150 parts to a single part. In this talk, we’ll discuss how we applied Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) workflows using Autodesk design and make tools to solve tomorrow's problems.

Victoria Hand Project (VHP) is a charity that designs and deploys low-cost, 3D-printed prosthetic arms in developing countries. VHP provides medical professionals in low-income countries with the tools and training to create custom prosthetic arms. VHP has developed software solutions which use Autodesk Fusion 360 software to efficiently create these devices. Recently, VHP struggled to create prosthetic devices for upper-arm amputees (i.e., above elbow), due to the complex geometry of the 3D scans and the in-depth knowledge/workflow required to make the devices. Through the new Autodesk Fusion 360 Product Design Extension, VHP can now organically convert the complex mesh bodies of upper-arm scans into solid bodies for further 3D modeling. This has substantially improved the workflow of creating upper-arm prosthetic sockets, and allows for automation using APIs. This empowers VHP’s in-country partners to create custom upper-arm prosthetic devices quickly and easily, allowing for improved access to prosthetic care.

You can see plastic injection-molded parts everywhere. From the consumer products and children's toys in our homes all the way through to the interiors of the cars we drive. With the addition of injection-molding simulation tools and Product Design Extension in Autodesk Fusion 360, there’s the opportunity to take the design of injection-molded components all the way from concept through to design, manufacturing validation and tooling manufacture all without ever leaving Autodesk Fusion 360. So that's what we'll do! We'll follow the whole process from start to finish. We'll look at designing a part, designing the mold, validating the mold, cutting chips on a computer numerical control (CNC) machine to make the mold, and producing the part.

This class will present the Fluid Path study in the Generative Design Extension in Fusion 360 ("Generative Fluids” for short), a powerful generative technology for the CFD industry, explain how to apply it, and share advanced tips and tricks to significantly speed up the design process. You'll learn the Generative Fluids workflow, the physics and optimization behind it, and important aspects involved in getting as much as possible from the tool. Additionally, we'll cover how to connect the workflow with other Autodesk capabilities and products, such as Generative Design in Fusion 360 (to combine both generative technologies, structural and fluids); Autodesk CFD for result validation; and Fusion Electronics Cooling in Fusion 360. This session is a chance to ask direct questions to the people creating the product.

In this technical deep dive, we'll walk through a real machined project designed in Inventor and programmed in Autodesk Fusion Manufacturing Extension. Follow the complete workflow: creating and iterating the part in Inventor, uploading to Fusion, applying toolpaths, generating G-code, and efficiently updating toolpaths after design changes using simple refreshes. We'll cover both the cloud approach (AnyCAD linked references and Desktop Connector) and the enterprise version using Vault Professional software for controlled releases and revision management. We'll share the actual files, challenges encountered, key lessons, and measurable time savings. You'll leave with actionable steps to build an effective digital thread between design and manufacturing teams.

In this class, Autodesk and GKN Aerospace will present how you can use Autodesk Fusion 360 software as a start-to-finish powerhouse for metal additive design and manufacturing. Starting with generative design, we can quickly explore possible print orientations and material possibilities, and build in automated design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) best practices to create designs that are optimized for structural performance, while minimizing the amount of required post processing. Once a design is selected, we’ll show how we can use the Additive Build Extension in Autodesk Fusion 360 to quickly create highly customizable support templates to generate intelligent support setups with a single click, and export directly to a powder bed additive printer for manufacturing.

Come to this class to learn how you can use an engineering-based generative design tool for concept development. Autodesk Fusion 360 is consistently growing in popularity as a hard modeler for production/concept design. The combination of generative design and exploration of the form tool (T-spline modeling) can yield diverse results. In addition, generative design can produce a wide range of models with different manufacturing and material properties. Each result can be adjusted for density and then modified with the form tool and/or solid/surface modification. As a bonus, there are mesh tolls for added modification and combination with additional data sources.

This session will cover the updates made to the Simulation Workspace in Autodesk Fusion 360 over the past few years. There will be four main categories that we will cover in this session: Static Simulation, Dynamic Simulation, Injection Molding Simulation, and Electronics Cooling. We have added a number of new features and capabilities as well as study types in the Simulation Workspace, and we'd like to give you an overview of those capabilities, as well as tips on how to get the most value out of those features

By 2027, every manufacturer selling into the European market will be required to provide a Digital Product Passport (DPP) and most are not ready. This session will show how Autodesk Fusion Manage software can close that gap, while also solving a longer-standing problem: disconnected data between process plant design and PLM. You'll see how equipment data from AutoCAD Plant 3D projects on Autodesk Forma (formerly Autodesk Construction Cloud) can automatically populate Fusion Manage BOMs eliminating manual handoffs between plant design and PLM. And you'll see how that same structure can generate EU-compliant DPPs on demand, without duplicate data entry connecting project context from Autodesk Forma with product lifecycle data where it belongs. Both extensions are built on Autodesk Platform Services APIs and demonstrated live.

These components could be machined, 3D printed, molded, electrical, electronic, or off-the-shelf items using various manufacturing and design processes.
