Revit software is highly tuned for architects and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) and structural engineers, but "out of the box" it doesn't quite meet all of the needs and unique workflow requirements of some other disciplines, such as interior design. This class will explore some of the ways that interior designers can successfully incorporate Revit into their workflows, understanding when it is important to model and when it is better not to model. We'll also document materials and finishes, including using Area plans and Key Schedules, note blocks and note tags, and techniques for quickly and easily generating graphics for presentations.

A common challenge for an interior design firm is working as a subconsultant for an architecture firm and keeping room names, numbers, and finish information updated to populate room finish schedules. This is easily managed if you use Dynamo software to read information from the linked model and synchronize information in the interior design model. Another common struggle is coordinating annotated information, room finish schedules, and material finish legends. A number of work-arounds exist, though all produce complicated workflows and still leave a disconnect between what is actually modeled and what is documented. A similar method to syncing room information from a linked model can be used to read finish information in a Revit model to populate the room finish schedule. This presentation will be a combination of Microsoft PowerPoint and a live demonstration of techniques that BSA LifeStructures interior designers employ to improve the process of designing and documenting in Revit software with assistance from Dynamo. We'll use PowerPoint to diagram the flow of information from phase to phase, or modeled content to construction drawing, followed by live demonstrations using Revit and/or Dynamo. Topics will include synchronizing room finish schedules with modeled materials, connecting rooms from linked models, coordinating items from linked models such as signage for doors or light fixtures, coordinating data external to Revit such as room data sheets or FFE requirements, and working through the design phases. This class will also cover finish drawings, signage drawings, and furniture drawings, with a focus on synchronization of information for producing a visualization-ready model while reusing those efforts to produce construction documents.

Interior designers may think Autodesk® Revit® software is less useful to them than it is to architects, but this class will definitely change their minds. As the scope of interior design is mostly on objects, such as furniture and interior finish materials, documenting enormous quantities of information in these categories makes it a challenge to model. It is almost impossible to model every little thing, but when it comes to project cost, everything counts. How can the information be included in the intelligent model without microscopic modeling that will overload the model? This class will introduce the use of data intelligent families with minimum geometry and smart scheduling to cover the interior design scope of work. The class will also demonstrate techniques that make use of data management in Revit to do documentation in various formats, which enables interior design delivery packages to be done in a single file instead of using different programs like Microsoft® Excel®, Microsoft® Word, and Adobe® InDesign®.

With the influx of more capable and lower-cost HMDs that are continually evolving along with hardware, we can now unleash VR into the hands of a wider audience. Automotive designers, modellers, interior designers, engineers, manufacturers, and others can make better decisions and immerse themselves in an instant. It can be added as a verification to reduce the number of physical models while also making them more relevant and accurate.

How do we define our roles as visualization artists in the process of creating high-end quality marketing images? Who controls the image? How do you create a productive and inspired process when different design disciplines want to push their own ideas? It's the architect's building, the developer's money, the interior designer's space, the graphic designer's brand-and they all want to push that upon the visualizer's image. How do we as an industry keep control of our work while still working with and within the bounds of the other disciplines involved, while keeping everyone happy with the process and the outcome?

The class will show you an automotive interior design workflow. It will show how fast you can get to a physical prototype of an interior part. The workflow starts with quick concept modeling using Alias software. After that, we hand out the model to Autodesk Fusion 360 software for additional steps like physical model making and manufacturing cost evaluation. This early phase concept workflow can massively speed up your decision-making process for interior parts.

Learn to procedurally create any kind of physically based rendering (PBR) material with Substance Designer. This will enable you to create physically based materials that not only look believable, but also materials that tile perfectly when rendered. In this class you'll learn how to create some basic materials, and how to translate them into the major rendering applications including: mental ray rendering machine, NVIDIA’s Iray rendering engine, Chaos Group's V-Ray rendering engine, and A360 cloud-based collaboration service.
