According to HABITAT III, roughly a quarter of the world's urban population—equivalent to the combined populations of Spain, Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and the United States—lives in slums. In São Paulo, IBGE found that 1.2+ million people live in slums. These areas are becoming increasingly dense, which poses a challenge for sewage and drainage systems. Paraisópolis is the densest slum in São Paulo, and its streams have been occupied by housing. We will cover from core concepts all the way through to the new DIM command and all its options (Angular, Baseline, Continue, Ordinate, Align, Distribute, Layer, and Undo). We will also go through tips and tricks for editing existing dimensions.

This session will look at Grading Optimization and how it can help users grade sites to optimal slopes or optimal balance. We'll look at the importance of zones, and the use of lines and points to provide detail to the automated grading. We'll also look at how to encourage desired results, and explore tools that can identify when results are trending toward undesirable results.

Join us as we take a beginner's look at the Subassembly Composer software. We'll create some basic-to-advanced subassemblies here in the hands-on lab. We'll go from creating the PKT files to importing them into AutoCAD Civil 3D software to applying them to our corridor. This class is ideal for those in the transportation industry who need just a bit more than the tools that AutoCAD Civil 3D has to offer. We'll explore the new software features that make 2017 Subassembly Composer part of your project workflows. So, whether you've tried the software for yourself or never even heard of it before, this class is one you won't want to miss.

Design projects need to rely on quality data for existing conditions in order to be successful. Point cloud data collected from mobile or terrestrial laser scanning, or even from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), fit into this; however, they're challenging to use effectively on their own. This class will provide the necessary information to import, process, and extract relevant 2D and 3D features in InfraWorks software and exchange them with AutoCAD Civil 3D software for design. The class will also cover best practices for working with these large data sets and extracted features for detailed terrain and existing-conditions models. Knowledge of InfraWorks, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and point clouds will be helpful. At the end of the class, attendees will be able to use point cloud data more efficiently, and be able to extract linear and point features for further use in InfraWorks and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Many organizations use gravity pipe networks for all underground piping, even pressurized pipes like water mains, despite the fact there is a specialized pressure networks toolset. Sounds crazy, but there are reasons for this, including long-established workflows with pipe networks, as well as shortcomings and learning curves of pressure networks. It boils down to time and money: is it worth taking the plunge? In this class we'll shed light on that exact question. Brian Levendowski will walk through the good, the bad and the ugly of Kimley-Horn's implementation over the past year. It's not all rainbows and unicorns, folks! Charlie Ogden from Autodesk will walk through recent key updates, such as controlling pressure pipe runs with alignments and profiles, as well as stability and workflow improvements. The aim is to give you a solid understanding of what pressure networks can and can't do, enabling you to decide whether they're right for your organization.

Many architectural structures incorporate a water feature as a prominent visual component of the structure. This class will explain how to implement the Particle Flow system in 3ds Max software for architectural use. We will take you through the creation of water fountains, waterfalls, and other water features that architects like to use. We will cover the creation of Particle Flow networks to simulate water flow, and we'll discuss the use of space warps to affect the motion of the particles. We will also examine the Point Cache and particle rendering.

In this Hands-On Labs, we'll explore the workflows between InfoWorks ICM and AutoCAD Civil 3D. While this is not a superficial, unnecessary, or overly bad sequel, this Hands-on lab will explore real-time collaboration we challenge two teams to execute a whodunnit flood simulation to save the little town of Topper. InfoWorks ICM enables team collaboration and empowers engineers to reach beyond single-purpose tools tools to evaluate various options against a multitude of rainfall events within the context of the entire watershed. This Lab will provide users the opportunity to save the town of Topper - together by leveraging Civil 3D data, and InfoWorks ICMs integrated catchment modeling to evaluate the town for possible flood damages.

That final detailed grading around the houses when designing a residential subdivision has always been a time-consuming and tedious process. This class will show you techniques that will let you quickly and accurately grade that final design. The focus of this class will be primarily on using feature lines to grade out the lots. You will learn different techniques for creating feature lines, most of the editing tools for feature lines, how to stylize and label your feature lines, and how they can be incorporated into a surface. Even if you've never graded a subdivision and never plan on doing so, if you've ever done any grading at all, you'll benefit from this class, as the tools we'll show here are extremely versatile and you can use them in just about any grading exercise.

Need a new part for a pressure network but don't know how to make it? Pressure networks in AutoCAD Civil 3D software come with many different parts, such as bends, valves, and tees. But not everything that you may need is there. In this session, we'll go over what's required to make a part for pressure networks in AutoCAD Civil 3D using Content Catalog Editor. You'll learn how to create, manipulate, and implement new parts for pressure networks using Content Catalog Editor, as well as how to update the Pressure Network Catalog. We'll also cover how to use those newly created parts from Content Catalog Editor in a pressure network in your model. We'll demonstrate the workflow and process of editing and creating pressure network parts in AutoCAD Civil 3D and creating a pressure network. In addition, we'll review best practices, work-arounds, shortcuts, and the pros and cons of using pressure networks in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
