In Chicago, infrastructure planning is changing rapidly. In response, WSP USA has developed a 400-square-mile InfraWorks model of Chicago. A powerful and collaborative tool is key to the planning and design of WSP projects. This panel will cover the use of InfraWorks software for projects that include O'Hare International Airport Express Rail Project, Interstate 290 Expressway, Urban River Edge Ideas Lab, and a large land development parcel. We'll examine the assets used in the Chicago model, including highways, roadways, bridges, utilities, airports, transit, and the Chicago River. We'll discuss workflows for civil infrastructure, as well as reality capture versus visualization. Panel presenters will show several examples that touch on some of the best practices, work-arounds, shortcuts, limitations, and advantages of the Chicago Model.

Many organizations use gravity pipe networks for all underground piping, even pressurized pipes like water mains, despite the fact there is a specialized pressure networks toolset. Sounds crazy, but there are reasons for this, including long-established workflows with pipe networks, as well as shortcomings and learning curves of pressure networks. It boils down to time and money: is it worth taking the plunge? In this class we'll shed light on that exact question. Brian Levendowski will walk through the good, the bad and the ugly of Kimley-Horn's implementation over the past year. It's not all rainbows and unicorns, folks! Charlie Ogden from Autodesk will walk through recent key updates, such as controlling pressure pipe runs with alignments and profiles, as well as stability and workflow improvements. This class will walk through the process of capitalizing on multiple Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection products, including AutoCAD Plant 3D Spec Editor, Infrastructure Parts Editor, and Content Catalog Editor libraries to generate custom libraries for use in Civil 3D. We'll also review other resources, including creation from scratch using Civil 3D's Part Publishing Wizard and free downloads from the web and Autodesk App Store. These methods will provide you with multiple solutions to expand your part catalogs, resulting in broader project design elements.

Need a new part for a pressure network but don't know how to make it? Pressure networks in AutoCAD Civil 3D software come with many different parts, such as bends, valves, and tees. But not everything that you may need is there. In this session, we'll go over what's required to make a part for pressure networks in AutoCAD Civil 3D using Content Catalog Editor. You'll learn how to create, manipulate, and implement new parts for pressure networks using Content Catalog Editor, as well as how to update the Pressure Network Catalog. We'll also cover how to use those newly created parts from Content Catalog Editor in a pressure network in your model. We'll demonstrate the workflow and process of editing and creating pressure network parts in AutoCAD Civil 3D and creating a pressure network. In addition, we'll review best practices, work-arounds, shortcuts, and the pros and cons of using pressure networks in AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Grading on an aviation site is tricky; there are often competing needs and regulations that dictate multiple requirements in the same space. What's more is the inherent need for safety and measurability. Add to this the reality that most aviation facilities are landlocked and the grading required is not going to be solved by out-of-the-box solutions. This course will give examples of using the Subassembly Composer software to create custom grading subassemblies for use in AutoCAD Civil 3D software and the advanced grading that you can complete once in AutoCAD Civil 3D software. In this session, we'll walk through a complete workflow starting inside ReCap Pro software, and publishing a point cloud to the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform. We'll extract linear features and bring them into Civil 3D software so we can create a simplified but highly accurate surface model. From there, we will publish the linear features as as-built information to ArcGIS Online for everyone to use. This is a workflow you've been asking for!

In this session, we'll take a look at a workflow under the Autodesk umbrella to process photos collected with an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). We'll cover best practice workflows, from processing the drone data in ReCap software, taking those results into InfraWorks software for use and further processing, then finally moving them into AutoCAD Civil 3D software. The end result will be a functioning TIN surface inside AutoCAD Civil 3D, as well as a georeferenced orthomosaic.

The software enables engineers, designers, and planners at government agencies and engineering consulting firms to predictably evaluate vehicle movements on transportation or site design projects. This hands-on lab will teach attendees how to utilize Vehicle Tracking software's swept-path tools and use them within a 3D environment in AutoCAD Civil 3D software.

This session is about the power of the combined use of InfraWorks software, AutoCAD Civil 3D software, and Revit software. For a building site, a platform and gradings proposition is created with InfraWorks. Earthworks optimization is performed in AutoCAD Civil 3D from InfraWorks data. The result is some more complex gradings that need a retaining wall. The workflow will demonstrate how we can create this wall in Revit then calculate it with Robot Structural Analysis Professional software, and how we can generate the reinforcement in Revit. The final modeling of this building site will be integrated in the real context in InfraWorks.

This class is designed to articulate the workflow of creating a topographic survey model within AutoCAD Civil 3D software by using scanner-generated point clouds (Trimble SX10) processed within InfraWorks software. Initially, we will import our point cloud into InfraWorks where it will be analyzed, processed, and filtered. We will then export data from InfraWorks and import it within AutoCAD Civil 3D for additional processing. Once in AutoCAD Civil 3D, we will process data again to create a topographic survey model. To demonstrate this workflow, we'll focus on an actual project containing a retaining wall (75 feet long x 20 feet high) in need of replacement. In this instance, our team decided to supplement a traditional (total station) topographic survey with scanner-generated point clouds to save on field time, and also to promote the safety of our survey crew.
