The country’s leading mechanical contractors were some of the earliest adopters of Building Information Modeling (BIM) due to the vast potential for off-site prefabrication. Nearly ten years after its first BIM project, J.C. Cannistraro is sharing some lessons learned from modeling, fabricating, and building some of the most high-profile hospital and biotech projects in the Northeast. Using primarily Autodesk® Navisworks® and Autodesk® Fabrication software, we will explain how we use collaborative thinking, Lean methodology, and BIM tools throughout the preconstruction and construction phases to maximize the efficiency of delivery and installation on every project.

This hands-on lab teaches how to use Inventor software to simplify workflows, data processing, and proprietary designs using the Inventor Simplification feature. Simplification, previously available from Autodesk Labs as a technology preview, is now included with Inventor 2014. The Simplification tool is leaner than Shrink Wrap, yet it produces well-derived components. Intelligent referencing can and will assist in the heavy upper loads for large assemblies. Combinations of iParts and iAssemblies are also included. The lab begins with a short lecture discussing preparation for Simplification, then transitions into workflow layout methodology. We end with Inventor modeling. You will learn best practices for using components and assemblies to reduce time spent (productivity) and to increase drawing information.

New manufacturing processes and hardware are changing the way products are designed and made. This class will focus on how companies can use innovative DED (directed energy deposition) additive processes in their businesses to respond faster, produce more efficiently, and produce parts they couldn't have through traditional manufacturing techniques. We'll be focusing primarily on PowerMill 2019 software's support for additive/hybrid manufacturing processes, and the Diversified Machine Systems (DMS) Hybrid Machining Center that combines 5-axis additive and 5-axis subtractive machining. You'll learn which industries have lead the way in adopting these technologies and how they've implemented them, which applications in your shop could benefit from DED hybrid technology, how to most effectively plan for hybrid processes, and how to best utilize the new Additive tools in PowerMill.

This class will show you how to use BIM technology (especially Autodesk, Inc., Solutions) to strengthen the construction management capabilities for general contractors in China, and we will share the real BIM values with megaproject experiences. The samples will be CTF Tianjin Financial Center (580 meters in height), Shanghai New International Expo Center (140 million square meters), and ICON Cloud (a landmark in west China). The following values that we may introduce include BIM for planning, site management, quantity takeoff, 4D/5D simulation, BIM+RFID (Radio Frequency Identification and Detection), laser scanning, fabrication, and BIM 360 software, and so on.

Micromanufacturing is the transformation of dreams and ideas into reality through the use of low-cost, minimalistic production technology and equipment in home-style businesses across the globe. In this class, we’ll cover the evolution of micromanufacturing, the ability it has to transform small ideas into viable products for a fraction of the cost of traditional manufacture, and some real-world applications for micromanufacturing in an innovative, small-scale production environment.

Every company needs new and digital ways of collaboration. People and processes of different companies want and need to communicate and interact online. Therefore solutions have to be created that an internal IT infrastructure can easily adapt with cloud computing solutions. With BIM4Manufacturing there is a great "MacGyver" way for cloud collaboration in manufacturing and with suppliers. This webinar describes an agile way of process optimization by optimizing sprint by sprint different areas (sales, processing, production, purchasing, ...). Within a few days, processes in traditional manufacturing and/or extended workbenches can be digitally transformed. All that is needed is an internal IT structure (ERP/DMS/PDM) that can export data and documents. Every employee can immediately participate in his work process, consume CAD files and create added value.

There is a lot of hype around cloud computing and there are many claims about whether it can really be transformative. While the total cost of ownership benefits have been proven, questions about whether the cloud can deliver the same level of functionality remain. In this class, we examine how the cloud has changed how designers and manufacturers are using information technology and extending the value of it to better apply lean principles in their business.

In this class, we’ll cover four topics of automotive manufacturing: mold simulation and CAM, factory planning, automated manufacturing, and emerging design and manufacturing technology. We’ll begin with the challenges that automotive tooling companies face, and how the use of new technology and increased machine utilization can address the needs of more-complex and accurate tooling. From there we’ll move to factory planning and ways in which to address the challenges that drive change in manufacturing facilities; the problems that arise because of change; and the use of a unified digital model to manage this. We’ll then look at how manufacturing productivity can be increased using intelligent automation, and how it can improve consistency and component reliability. And we’ll finish discussing the use of emerging technology like generative design and additive and hybrid manufacturing, as manufacturers look to improve performance and efficiency of vehicles to meet sustainability and regulatory requirements.

The intent of this session is to share some better practices for managing pull plans, and also to demonstrate how the firm is using BIM 360 Plan software to do so.

Case studies will be discussed from several iconic, global project executions where assembly line manufacturing construction processes were deployed for amazingly fast construction, reducing the on-site work, wastages, and costs. The main focus of this class is using BIM to support modular design and industrialized construction. Attendees will learn when and how to set up these assembly lines and the challenges associated with them.
