This case study explores how two educators have created girl-focused STEM events to support and empower our next generation. In order to help close the gender gap in their engineering classes, they created programs that pairs young students with high school students and professionals in industry. Maker Girl Mania, a STEM event created in 2015, uses a variety of hands-on activities at over 25 stations for students K-7th grade to explore, problem-solve, build, and tinker with different facets of engineering. Over 100 high school volunteers and industry partners help the young makers at each of the 25 stations to be successful in their explorations. Tech Girls, an annual event that pairs middle school girls with high school girls, introduces young students to the classes and careers available in STEM including Engineering, Design, Architecture, and Automotive.

This session will show you how to use Autodesk products for the complete electromechanical design workflow of a maker project. You'll learn how to use Autodesk Fusion 360 software for the structural and mechanical design, AutoCAD Electrical software for the electrical design, and Inventor software to combine the two into a full electromechanical workflow and wiring harness design.

When the COVID-19 outbreak began, makers across the globe came together to help fill the shortfall in supply chains and provide personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline workers by harnessing the power of a localized collective factory of 3D printers. At Warwick University we also sprang into action to help fight the virus. Large-scale additive manufacturing (LSAM) is a technology similar to that used in hobbyist desktop 3D printers. However, it generally has much bigger build platforms, larger nozzle diameters, and higher volumetric flow rates. This means it can be used as a rapid-response bridge manufacturing from 3D printing to injection molding. Using Fusion 360 software’s parameter tables, the speaker was able to generate a design that could be easily changed based on the printer setup, and be optimized for the faster printing times. In just three design iterations we went from 10 minutes to just 3.5 minutes.

This instructional demo will cover basics of the Autodesk Generative Design software. We will demonstrate the steps needed to get your data loaded, constraints added and objectives set. After that, we will then show what definitions are required to process the information and how easy and informative it is to view the computed results. Sample parts will be used for the demo and shown for reference. Other topics will include subscription information, technical specifications and more. Only released Autodesk software made available to the public will be demonstrated.

How and why to conduct drawingless design and production in large scale construction projects. Get an AHA experience about new ways to work in big projects by all-in-focus on 3D models and BIM data deliverables instead of drawings - to achieve an unbroken flow of digital information. A real example from Sweden's most ambitious BIM-project Slussen in Stockholm. The audience will also learn how to get around all obstacles with old school conservative decision-makers to get the vision to reality. This session will describe why we had to decide to get a zero-tolerance on drawings and how to get a 500 person team to get on board and work in a new digital way in our most conservative industry. I will also show what kind of sharp digital deliverables we are producing for the contractor instead of drawings. This will include information models (BIM), surveying models and models for machine guidance (CAD), 4D sequencing models (NWD), bills of quantity for procurement, technical documents, model specifications, synchronized external BIM databases and Model Views as e-optimised PDF packages (Not regular drawings with measurements). In total 10 different information carriers but NO drawings at all. We will also show how the new deliverables will be used by reviewers and the contractor (Skanska). That will include reviewing in VR with HTC Vive. I will also share my experiences how to use technologies like BIM 360 Collaboration for Revit (CFR) and the use of laser scanned and drone captured existing conditions. The presentation will also reveal how to get around all obstacles with old school conservative decision makers - that kind of information that all digital- and BIM Managers will value a lot. This Project is one of a kind so far - at least in Europe.

Injection mold designers and mold makers are facing increasing challenges due to newly developed molding technologies such as rapid heating and cooling molding (RHCM) or rapid temperature cycle (RTC), as the mold lifecycles could be shorter or uncertain. Even for traditional mold design and making, the lifecycle is typically based on experiences only. We have developed a new tool for mold fatigue analysis. It analyzes the progressive and localized structural damage that causes mold failure due to cyclic loading during the injection molding process. In this class, we will present the complete simulation sequence: transient thermal analysis, mold filling analysis, core-shift analysis, clamping influence, mold stress analysis, and eventually fatigue analysis. This sequence is automated in Autodesk® Simulation Moldflow® Insight software to identify where mold damage could happen first and how many cycles a mold will last.

Building information modeling (BIM) and geographic information system (GIS) integration has become an essential part of large-scale projects. While a massive amount of information is produced during the project lifecycle, it’s sometimes hard to use it because it’s trapped inside the BIM and GIS software. This becomes an obstacle for non-users of BIM and GIS—especially on decision-maker levels and from project management perspectives. Using business intelligence software, Microsoft Power BI, and the support of other software like Autodesk Forge and VCAD, Power BI will be able to present intelligent models and GIS layers in an interactive way connected with all types of trackers. In this session, the speaker will present how they created an information center that acts as the single source of truth for their projects using the interactive connection between Power BI, BIM 360 software, ArcGIS, and trackers in Microsoft Excel to give all team members access to up-to-date information.

This class covers a typical utility workflow using Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite, highlighting its top new features and benefits. The workflow uses AutoCAD® Raster Design and AutoCAD® Map 3D software to gather and edit base data, such as aerial images, CAD drawings, and GIS data, including electric industry models. Analysis tools help identify potential areas and corridors for electric assets. Autodesk® Infrastructure Modeler software uses the data for a large-scale 3D model that combines the "What is" situation with "What could be" proposals. Conceptual designs of 3D overhead distribution networks, windmills or solar panels, buildings, and vegetation provide sophisticated visualizations for decision makers. A precise, model-based electric network is designed with AutoCAD® Utility Design based on these proposals. Standards-driven workflows and rules-based analysis tools ensure a network design with consistency and reliability.

This class begins with educating your bosses or decision-makers about GIS technology with a focus on the benefits of using Autodesk® products with Feature Data Objects (FDO) technology to connect with many GIS and raster data sources. We show how current Autodesk products can use the technology without the need for additional expensive software and contracts. We also show how other electrical utilities use AutoCAD® even with GIS from other vendors. Convince the Power of the facts! We also discuss a real-world upgrade from AutoCAD® Map 3D Enterprise 2012 with Autodesk® MapGuide® 6.5 to Map 3D 2013 and Autodesk® Infrastructure Map Server (AIMS) 2013. The class covers moving the system into full production, using the current process workflow of the utility while retaining the basic look and feel of the application. This class is co-presented with a technical consultant from the Autodesk Global Services Utilities and Telecom Consulting group.
