Generative design is a hot topic, but existing manufacturing methods like casting and injection molding seem to be hiding behind the curtains. This presentation will focus less so on additive manufacturing and more so on mass manufacturing methods currently being used industry wide. By leveraging existing generative design technology with casting and injection molding best practices, we can re-shape how current product design for manufacturing workflows can be achieved. By demonstrating the capabilities of new generative design technology, this talk will expose the new feature enhancements showcasing a realistic approach to the manufacturing and product design world which can be implemented into product design and manufacturing workflows today.

During Autodesk University 2021, we shared a developed workflow for how designers can bring data together through designing the part, the PCB (printed circuit board), and even how to manufacture the plastic components. With the complexity of electronic part designs, there are often various aspects that we need to consider in order for the part to both work and perform as expected. In this class, we’ll demonstrate how the Autodesk Fusion 360 workflow has matured to incorporate mechanical engineering aspects to smooth this product design workflow. We’ll use a sample product, the Autodesk University Digital Badge, to demo how to integrate mechanical design requirements and simulation into the product design process.

"Sustainability" means many different things to different manufacturers. In some cases designers and engineers strive to make a product perform with greater energy efficiency. In other cases they focus on making the product easy to recycle at the end of its life or they design out restricted substances with advanced material selections. Regardless of the focus, the design and detailed-engineering phases hold many opportunities to decrease the environmental impact of a product. Innovative design and production practices are rapidly changing everything we touch on a day to day basis, as well as how these things are created. Autodesk's Product Design Suite gives design teams the tools they need to push the boundaries of existing design processes. This session (segment?) will follow the use of several Product Design Suite design and visualization tools in a typical product design workflow, and will highlight the strengths of Intel's hardware solutions throughout that process.

Around 80% of the ecological impacts of a product are locked in at the design phase. If you look at the potential impact that a product has on the environment in its full lifecycle, it's decided by the designers at the design stage only. At Ecofrost Technologies, we design our products keeping sustainable design in mind. From the various sustainable design strategies, we currently focus on dematerialization, recyclability, efficiency, and modularity during our design stage. We also offer leasing models of our products to lower the barrier of entry to the solar-based cooling experience. This also helps us in strategy around product service system models, where leasing a product out—rather than selling it directly—allows the company to manage the product across its entire lifecycle.
