This class will review the new wind simulation technology available in Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2015 software. We will review the current landscape of code-based wind design (specifically ASCE 7) and we'll discuss the challenges of applying these methods to different structure types. We'll then examine Robot Structural Analysis Professional software's unique computational fluid dynamic (CFD) wind simulation tools, and we'll discuss how they compare to the code-based approaches. Using sample wind simulation models, we will review the wind simulation analysis parameters and the analysis process, and we'll discuss the simulation results. Finally, we'll review the benefits of wind simulation, we'll discuss the ways it can be used to supplement and/or validate code-based approaches, and we'll cover the benefits of wind simulation on workflows and projects.

In this class we will discuss the new capability to map fiber orientations and material properties from Simulation Moldflow software to structural finite element analysis (FEA). We will also cover how to use Simulation Composite Analysis software to simulate nonlinear material behavior of the fiber-filled material.

The University of Bradford has been using Autodesk Simulation Moldflow software for many years to investigate key injection-molding effects such as fiber orientation, residual stresses, warpage, post-injection product performance, heat transfer, and feature replication. This class builds on our Autodesk University 2011 class and covers the experimental and computational analysis of short- and -fiber reinforced components during injection molding, along with thermal investigations of the micromolding process.

In this class we will provide a guided, hands-on experience for working with both Simulation Composite Analysis software and Simulation Composite Design software.

This class will cover the basics of finite element analysis (FEA) and explore examples (including linear stress, modal-to-heat transfer, and dynamic simulations) in order to gain additional insight and improve product design for automotive, oil and gas, and industrial machinery industries.

In this class, we will consider how mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems can be designed from end to end as graph data. We'll see how the graph can connect all parts of the system, including spaces and walls, as well as conventional MEP elements. We'll also go through how the graph can expand to encompass complexity at each stage of the design—from initial conception to design development and, finally, to use. We'll go through an example application of MEP graph data using Revit software, Azure, and the Forge platform. With this application, we’ll see how other algorithms can use graph data for rapid simulation and analysis.

Autodesk CFD software is a great simulation tool for solving practical problems of MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) design for commercial buildings. In this class, you will see simulation strategies and techniques as applied to MEP design analysis to achieve better designs. We will share our experience of actual projects where Autodesk CFD has been used to zero in on effective ventilation in a diesel generator room; to gain insight to arrive at desirable smoke exhaust design for life safety in a public space; to improve design layout of a basement car park for acceptable ventilation; and to troubleshoot water leakage in an airport roof by rainwater flow simulation. You will learn how airflow and thermal simulations from Autodesk CFD are used to demonstrate the performance of MEP design. You will understand how results visualization and extraction tools are useful for spotting design issues and fixing them cost-effectively. We will also highlight advantages, best practices, and limitations while using Autodesk CFD for the MEP design process.

This foundation session will cover use of the Traffic Simulation tool to analyze traffic flow through intersections, display color-coded traffic-analysis results, and generate traffic-simulation animations to play in your model. More importantly, the Traffic Analyst panel enables you to specify advanced demand matrices, profiles, vehicle types, driver types, and other variables. This session features AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and InfraWorks 360.

In this class, we provide a broad overview of the newly released composites software functionality. We focus on Autodesk® Simulation Composite Design software for designing composite structures and on Autodesk® Simulation Composite Analysis software for stress and failure analysis of composite structures. We provide an overview of the capabilities of the software, present case studies, and discuss target markets. We also cover the future direction of the Simulation Composites product line.

This session will cover how Simulation and Generative Models allow you to create multiple shape variations in Simplify and Edit Model workspaces. In Design Workspace, Configurations allow users to quickly create multiple variations of a design based on feature parameters, physical material, and suppression, to name a few. Configurations created in the Design Workspace can be seamlessly consumed in Simulation and Generative Design. Using this, one can create multiple simulation studies quickly for analysis and compare them in the results workspace. In Generative Design this is useful to quickly create multiple studies involving different setup parameters resulting in a richer design space to explore outcomes.

Autodesk® Simulation Moldflow® Insight is a powerful tool to simulate the different stages of the injection molding process. New capabilities of this tool include a transient mold thermal analysis. This type of simulation combines the mold filling and packing simulation with a heat transfer analysis, hence providing increased accuracy in the mold thermal solution. Attendees see the variables that influence the analysis results and improvements that can be done to the model to more closely correlate with the real life. For this purpose, simulation results are compared to experimental results over a design of experiments varying coolant temperature, injection rate, barrel temperature, and cooling time. The experimental results, obtained using an instrumented mold, include temperature and pressure data. Finally, the differences between the transient cooling analysis and the conventional cycle average solution are compared as well as their correlation to experimental results.

In this class, I run through the pros and cons and workflows for creating simulations in all 3 of the Inventor Professional software simulation tools. I highlight which tool is best to use and when, while also explaining the differences and comparing the results.

Autodesk Nastran In-CAD software brings advanced analysis techniques to the Inventor platform, letting engineers explore nonlinear, vibratory, buckling, and other behaviors or failure conditions within the context of an interactive design and modeling session. Attendees of this workshop will be taught to recognize the need for these solutions and how to take their Inventor digital prototypes through advanced tests. Additionally, they will be introduced to the inputs required and the outputs produced so more-exacting and more-precise engineering decisions can be made.

In this class you will learn about the interaction between Inventor software and Simulation Flex software. We will focus on using Inventor software models via direct integration for stress analysis, code checking, and mechanical and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation in the cloud. You will get in-depth overview of the Simulation software products and functionality, and you will learn the proper workflow needed to achieve optimum efficiency and integration.

In this class, we start with an overview of how simulation can be used during the complete design process. Simulation enables our customers to stand out from their competition because they can be more innovative and get to market faster while ensuring product quality. We cover several tools, including Autodesk® Force Effect™ and Dynamic Simulation in Inventor® 3D CAD software. We look at sloshing by performing a CFD analysis with Autodesk® Simulation CFD software, and we use Autodesk® Simulation Mechanical software to analyze vibrations.

In this hands-on lab, learn how Inventor® Professional, Autodesk® Simulation CFD, and Autodesk® Simulation Mechanical design tools can empower structural engineers and architects to accurately assess designs for the infrastructure of our growing world. Autodesk design and creation suites are a smorgasbord of design tools, many with unlimited cloud computing capabilities. Creatively exploring various combinations and interoperability functions of Autodesk Simulation tools in nontraditional workflows can have a profound effect on design. This lab provides an opportunity to practice the workflow and techniques in a hands-on environment. A case study shows the techniques that are needed then justifies using simulation tools and workflows to accurately predict the thermal profile and resultant stresses through validation against measured bridge data. Attendees learn how Inventor designs can be analyzed for thermal loads using Simulation CFD and for thermal stresses using Simulation Mechanical.

Detailed analysis of mold designs is becoming increasingly necessary as advanced mold technologies are adopted. Conformal mold cooling is a cooling technique that aims to offer optimal cooling conditions exactly where you need them. The technology has been around for many years, but has become a real option now with the better and cheaper ways to manufacture conformal cooling cores. Hot runner systems are very commonly used in plastic injection molding. Although these are simple systems on the surface, what actually happens inside the hot runners and how they lose heat into the mold can be quite complex. With the Cool (FEM) functionality inside Autodesk Simulation Moldflow software coupled with Autodesk® Simulation CFD software, you now have the capability to model even the most complicated conformal geometries and hot runners in full three-dimensional detail of all components. This process enables you to evaluate and optimize the hot runner and conformal cooling design to achieve an optimal mold design and injection molding process.
