If looking to improve the general health of your Vault SQL Server implementation, improve performance, or automate backups, this course is for you. It’s geared towards Vault administrators looking to improve maintenance in their SQL Server environments using SQL Server Maintenance Plans. As maintenance plans are not something that is installed or implemented with out of the box solutions from Autodesk or Microsoft, we will provide a suggested solution for use with SQL Server. We will cover the basics of implementing a SQL Server maintenance plan to keep Autodesk Vault SQL Server Databases running at their most optimum levels, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and beyond. Users will have a base maintenance plan to get started and will walk away with the knowledge to modify that plan to suit their own unique environments. This session features Vault Professional, Vault Basic, and Vault Workgroup.

Basic administration of Vault software is pretty clean, but what about when your data over the years has gotten dirty. Ever feel like you’d like to run your data through a power wash? Maintaining a clean functioning Vault takes time if done manually. In this class, we’ll explore ways to use PowerShell and the API to clean, rearrange, and add metadata to your data. Duplicate file names, missing information, other data sources, or maybe a new file structure. You can handle all of these things and more with PowerShell and the API.

Whether you’re planning your first installation or maintaining a global replicated network, this class will walk you through the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and migration of your Vault software implementation. Learn how to properly plan for the growth of your deployment and how to maintain your Vault software to match the evolving needs of your business. As your system grows over time, you will need to migrate from version to version of the product as well as of the SQL and the operating system. Class topics will include capacity planning, disaster recovery, system monitoring, and SQL optimization. Learn from the experts to ensure your Vault software success.

In this class, a CIO of a leading ship-building company from India shall be jointly presenting with a partner a case study of their custom implementation of Vault software as a business process automation platform to synchronize their design and business workflows to their Enterprise Business systems—Infor ERP. The class will explore how various departments of a ship-manufacturing organization works around the design data that flows between various users and integrates critical items and BOM with their ERP system and automates several business workflows customized on Vault interface. The presenter will explain how they could save close to 20% of their design-to-manufacturing cycle time by streamlining Vault product data management (PDM) software to remove redundant work on ERP while enabling a collaborative and automated business environment. This class will explore the extent to which Vault can be customized beyond its basic features, and throw light on integration of BOM and related data to ERP or other applications.

The Vault 2014 release adds a powerful set of programming tools: the Vault Development Framework (VDF). Learn how to unlock the power of the VDF. Get more features in your apps with less code. This class goes over the basics of the VDF, such as how to use the Login dialog. From there we explore how to use the VDF in various contexts, such as the Job Processor. Lastly, we go over useful tips and tricks for Vault 2014 API programming.

At Autodesk University 2015, the combined use of the Vault API and the Forge Viewer API was first demonstrated. This class continues on that path and showcases the use of the Vault API and Forge Design Automation for Inventor software to programmatically modify Inventor files that reside within Vault software. We will see how to check out a file from Vault and modify the file using Design Automation for Inventor, eliminating the need for a local install of Inventor and its dependent licenses. Post modification, we’ll check the updated file back into Vault, creating a new version and maintaining file history.

You've set up your Vault server. Everyone is connected and happily checking files in and out, participating in lifecycles, and creating items and bills of materials (BOMs). The Job Processor is ticking away, handling all the busy work for your engineers, and you can sit back and relax, safe in the knowledge that you don't need to do anything until it's time to upgrade to the next version. Right? Wrong! Vault servers can be fickle mistresses, and things do occasionally go pear-shaped. And if things do go wrong, the best time to find out is before it happens. Running low on disk space? Persistent Job Processor errors? High RAM usage? SQL Express database getting perilously close to the 10GB limit? All these and more can adversely affect the performance of your Vault server. This session will show you how to install Zabbix and configure it to monitor your Vault server and Job Processor, and alert you of any impending problems before they become actual problems.

Vault software offers many different add-ins to let you interface with many of the Autodesk offerings. So how does Vault work with some of the different CAD products? What do you need to know to utilize Vault with these products? How do they differ from each other? Learn how to configure and manage multiple CAD products with Vault. Get the tools you need to expand your Vault functionality. This class will discuss general best practices for Vault add-ins, and dive more deeply into AutoCAD Electrical software, AutoCAD Plant 3D software, and Revit software. We’ll also touch on some basics to interface with BIM 360 software and Fusion Team. Get tips and tricks, and learn some possible pitfalls and limitations. We’ll cover what’s different, what’s the same, what you need to know for each of the covered products, and what does or doesn’t function as expected in Vault software.

This session features Vault Professional, Inventor Professional, and Vault Workgroup. AIA Approved

This round-table discussion will elaborate on how to create corridors for railroad projects in AutoCAD Civil 3D software. The speaker will introduce the potential of applying premade railroad structures (Microsoft Visual Basic .NET) in designs consisting of 2, 3, or more tracks. He will share the experience of organizing teamwork in big projects between several engineers and/or other project members. The speaker will also share practical experience regarding why working with Vault software is superior to working with a server that uses civil-data shortcuts. The discussion will include the analysis of a work model (AutoCAD Civil 3D software plus Vault software) that enables an engineer to create a digital 3D model and a manager to monitor and control the progress of the project without specific knowledge of the software.

Learn how to bring structure, clarity, and powerful searchability to your engineering data using Vault Items as the foundation for classification. Many organizations rely on files and folders to organize models, drawings, and documents, but this approach can quickly become difficult to manage as data grows. By using Items, you can create a consistent classification framework in a more meaningful way.

Learn how to Vaultify an existing Inventor add-in by integrating Vault API functionality. This session will focus on adding Vault connectivity and using Vault data directly within Inventor to enhance your design workflows. You'll see how to search for existing parts using both system and user-defined properties, helping reduce duplicate designs and improve reuse of existing data. We'll also explore how this approach can support smarter decision making during design, streamline processes, and lay the foundation for more-advanced Vault-driven automation within your custom add-ins.
