Generative Design has brought a paradigm shift in the way we design. In early 2019 we launched a Proof of Concept for this new approach, taking advantage of our BIM and Station concept expertise. Having disseminated state-of-the-art Generative Design knowledge among our technical team, we began an ‘awareness phase’ and chose a subject for Proof of Concept from a range of study cases. The test application that we present today aims to help architects in Functional Program of Metro Station. We would like to share with you our experience from the last 12 months of experimentation.

The ideal lifecycle is possible. Everyone can manage change the way they want—and, in fact, they do. Because, the way you manage files now, regardless of whether you like it or not, is what you choose to do. To move past the basics of file management into the area of drawing revisions, approvals, security, and advanced property management, you need to deal with lifecycles. In this class, we’ll look at Vault lifecycles and help you decide which is the best course of action. This class will introduce you to the powerful tools that are available in Vault Workgroup and Vault Professional for revision management, approval workflows, and engineering change orders (ECOs). Learn how categories are used to control the flow of your data and how versions and revisions are intertwined. We’ll also cover how to apply different revision schemes and how to initiate and track change via a change order.

At Autodesk, we build solutions that include everything from 3D design, to preconstruction, through build, and into project handover. Customers often use Construction Cloud in tandem with advanced construction software and hardware, as well as with everyday software tools such as Microsoft Office 365, Smartsheet, cloud-storage solutions, and data-analytics tools such as Microsoft Power BI. Automating the workflows and data passed through these disparate systems helps keep everyone working with the latest and greatest information, eliminating errors due to siloed data and making collaboration easier on a construction jobsite. This talk will focus on using Autodesk APIs and our integration platform-as-a-service—Construction Cloud Connect—to build custom workflows and to connect various technologies together to build a tech stack custom tailored to your needs.

This class will dive into all things tool palette, exploring how much of a benefit they can be for group standardization and design production. We’ll show you how to create a fresh tool palette with commands, 2D, 3D, and dynamic blocks, and how to create customized lists for the tabs of blocks, separating them into discipline groups that the user can easily filter. Commands such as Line, Script, and LISP files can be inserted and shown as easy-to-pick icons to run just about anything you can dream up. Lastly, we’ll provide a couple of ways to create both a protected network and local structure for setting the palettes as "Read Only" for users, but letting the CAD manager maintain the master palette. The beauty of this is that the changes will replicate across a large or small group instantly, only requiring the users to relaunch AutoCAD software in order to see the palette updates.

Improved and affordable software has made the concept of real-time rendering to become fully realized in the AEC industry. Designers are now able to effortlessly produce high-class renderings throughout every stage of their workflow. A game-changing feature that has added to the improvement of the design workflow is an integration that gives designers the ability to work with both CAD and renderings side-by-side. How do you achieve that? You can achieve user experience by using Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) instead of Windows forms, and achieve accessibility by using modeless dialogs. This class will present the advantage of using WPF and modeless dialogs while developing your Revit plug-ins. Users can see the actions and data flows between Revit and plug-ins. In this session, we’ll show a demo of the workflow consisting of multiple steps that depend on each other to show the features that WPF provides.

Many piping fabricators now receive pipe geometry information in digital format, preferably in Isogen PCF format. AutoCAD Plant 3D software creates PCF files that piping fabricators can use. But if rules are not followed correctly, the interface between AutoCAD Plant 3D and SmartPlant Spoolgen will not work properly. This is not a problem fundamental to AutoCAD Plant 3D software; it’s a problem with how AutoCAD Plant 3D may have been customized. This class will focus on what you need to know to enable AutoCAD Plant 3D to interface to the Spoolgen software that is commonly used by piping fabricators. We will communicate the experience gained by working with the Hexagon Alias Team through practical examples of what to do and what not to do while customizing AutoCAD Plant 3D Isometrics. This class will teach attendees how to manage the piping specs and catalog to ensure compatibility with Spoolgen through the correct mapping of Skeys and End Types, as well as avoiding various “gotchas” that can cause Isogen and Spoolgen to fail.

For many within the oil and gas sector, being able to track and store asset data is paramount in calculating and verifying the maximum operating pressures (MOP) of pipeline infrastructure. This class defines how AutoCAD Plant 3D software can be used to build a facility model to house specific asset data and then use that data to calculate MOP information for a given segment of the facility piping or for the facility as a whole. This data set can then be used for regulatory audits and compliance assurance. Once a site model has been completed, it can then be used for future design changes and infrastructure management.

Generally, the Design Automation API enables you to integrate an automated batch processor into a pipeline to process files in the cloud. In the Design Automation context, Revit software, AutoCAD software, and Inventor software generally work with native file formats; but in the case of 3ds Max software, the list of file formats that we can import and work with is more extensive. This traditional strength of 3ds Max—of importing and working with a huge number of file formats—opens the way for multiple workflows, including visualization. In this class, we will present an overview of some possible Design Automation rendering workflows, as well as discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each workflow.
