This class showcases the interoperability of 3ds Max software with other products, such as Revit software and AutoCAD software. This class is all about linking and reloading files from other software products into a 3ds Max scene. We will start by learning about the various settings that can be configured while linking a Revit (.rvt) file. We will then create a new linking preset and modify it as per specific requirements. Learn to use the new preset to bring a Revit file into the 3ds Max scene. Finally, we will use a variation of the source Revit file and learn how to load those changes to show up directly in the 3ds Max scene. If time permits, we will explore the interoperability of AutoCAD and 3ds Max software products.

Mechanical motion is all around. From a simple door hinge to a car cylinder piston, it's easy to forget that even simple real-world motions can be complex operations in 3D animation software. This class will explore several methods for automating complex motion animation in 3ds Max 2018 software. Designers will learn how to wire parameters and import the assembly into 3ds Max, and how to create similar constraints using 3ds Max tools. You will learn strategies for building a hierarchy based on animation requirements, as well as basic parameter wiring and the setting up of links and inverse kinematics to mimic specific constraints. Godrej Storage Solutions is the largest intralogistics solutions provider in India and in Asia abroad. It deals with projects that are unique and customized. The major output is a general arrangement drawing of the warehouse layout. Due to its complex nature, the designs are prepared in 2D layouts and reviewed by customers. This process involves multiple iterations before the customer gets a complete idea about the proposal. After many such iterations, technical sign-off happens but with the uncertainty of an error-free solution. To reduce this long cycle time and for better visibility for the customer, the Godrej design team makes 3D walk-through videos of a complete warehouse with all civil details. This helps the stakeholder to virtually visualize the full warehouse facility during the design stage itself and ensures no conceptual errors. Another aspect of the project business is that the project location and decision makers are not co-located. Hence, visualization helps them making timely and accurate decisions.

This class is aimed at architects and visualization professionals interested in learning more about the pipeline, best practices, and tips and tricks for getting a building information modeling (BIM) data set prepped for use in a real-time game engine. The majority of this class will revolve around work done in 3ds Max software, where we'll import a Revit architectural data set, clean and organize the model, set up initial shaders and lighting, and finally export the model for use in a real-time environment. We'll then bring the prepared data set into Unreal Engine, showing the import process. We'll explore how geometry, materiality, and lighting information is translated. And we'll show the process for making future updates to the original data set in 3ds Max, and demonstrate how to seamlessly translate these changes back to Unreal Engine.
