In this class, you'll learn how to use AWS Amplify to connect your Autodesk add-ins to a database and let your users exchange data. You'll also learn how to use AWS Amplify and React to host the Forge Viewer to build clients custom web dashboards with authentication for your clients. AWS Amplify is a complete solution you can use to build and host full-stack applications, letting you concentrate on app development and avoid spending time and money on server maintenance and complex admin tasks. Adding database, account authentication, file storage, and several other functions can be achieved quickly using a command line interface, which makes it very easy to start new projects.

We developed A-SPEC, a computational design tool that aims to be a partner for architectural designers, based on the concept of "thinking together about RESTROOMS.” For any specified space, the cloud-based A-SPEC program will run multiple simulations and propose some better restroom-layout plans from tens of thousands of ideas. The design know-how that we’ve proposed in the past is utilized throughout the program to evaluate both the automatic calculations and the layout of the automatic design results derived from those calculations. The design results are converted into a 3D model using Forge Viewer, with veracity confirmable by the human eye. Finally, the results can be linked to Revit software and AutoCAD software via the Design Automation API. In addition to reducing design work time, this tool enables generalization and uniformity of design accuracy without relying on the individual know-how of designers.

This masterclass will cover how to link PlanGrid with next-generation BIM 360 Docs software by utilizing the power of data collection through BIM 360 workflows and PlanGrid field reports. The speaker will be able to demonstrate the added benefit of being able to maximize data for trend analysis via Microsoft Power Bi and automatic modeling by integrating the output with Dynamo software. We will cover basic principles of PlanGrid and usability for the average user, alongside best practices, work-arounds, shortcuts, limitations, and benefits. We will explore an array of case studies, giving live project application examples and how they’ve integrated with external tools, such as What3Words.

Learn how to implement Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) processes through the use of iConstruct. This class will develop the skills required to process the model from the desktop to the cloud utilizing the iConstruct Forge AWP application. Learn about the opportunities to create efficient workflows through the use of the iConstruct tool suite and how this will enable efficient Work Package management in the Forge Viewer. Learn strategies on how to optimize the model, such as changing the hierarchy of the model, data integration, status visualization, work hours, and the addition of further Work Pack attributes. Plus, see how this may integrate with BIM 360 Docs software and other project systems.

Federal, state, local, and city governments are setting ambitious targets for reducing energy consumption of existing buildings through building retrofits. A challenge has been the scaling of energy analysis across large building portfolios in order to identify and prioritize the buildings and retrofit measures. Prior methods were limited to single buildings, but this session will introduce new capabilities that enable evaluation of entire building portfolios with minimal data inputs required. Results are presented dynamically in the context of a digital model and a custom Forge-based building portfolio management dashboard that serves as an executive summary for users or consumers of the rapid energy modeling (REM) tools, and enables easier communication and understanding of the workflow and results with clients. The session is intended for owners and managers, including the Department of Defense (DoD); federal, state, and local government; airports; higher education; architectural firms; and planning entities.

The industry is moving from mass production to customized solutions, creating a tremendous increase in the demand for custom BIM (Building Information Modeling) software solutions. However, custom solutions are expensive to develop. With Forge, you can build custom BIM configurators with minimum investment and time. We created a custom simulation app for HVAC professionals to produce a sustainable design. The app simulates the performance of design spaces and HVAC systems configuration in the cloud. The class will demonstrate how to use Forge to create a new user-defined office build space. We will elaborate on how the assembly of complex 3D HVAC system configurations can be created. You will see how Revit design automation APIs can construct an accurate intelligent model on the server. Attendees will learn these techniques, as well as how to create vast varieties of online BIM system configurators such as kitchen design, furniture design, infrastructure design, and others.

CAD software requirements are drastically changing from the traditional use of desktop-based software usually consumed by the design department. Demand for cloud-based CAD web apps (also consumed by non-technical executives) is increasing. In the class, we will see how the Forge platform and various cloud infra providers can be utilized together to create modern-day vertical CAD configurators as per the specific need of each organization. Based on stats and test cases, we will demonstrate how a serverless CAD configurator can scale up massively to address the peak-hour needs of industry while staying low on budget. We will explain how Forge services can help us to bootstrap our applications and reduce the development time to as few as just three months, and bring down the development cost substantial.

This class will explain how to manage and improve the construction process of linear infrastructure projects with BIM 360 software in order to improve data quality and reduce costs and time by 60%. The digitalization of these processes enables us to retrieve relevant data and information directly in the construction site, reducing wastefulness and promoting sustainability. Currently we are managing roughly 150 projects with BIM 360 Docs, BIM 360 Field, and BIM 360 Project Management software. For these projects we mainly implemented three processes: the quality check, the inspection survey in BIM 360 Field, and the design variation check. The workflows are valid either if the project has been developed with BIM methodology or through the traditional method. The management of the company can use data and statistics to analyze the progress and the status of the works through powerful dashboards made with Forge. We will show the workflows improvements with a clear metric analysis.

RPA (robotic process automation) is growing fast. RPA is mimicking the repetitive human activities with software robots. Almost 25-30% of every project has repetitive tasks that are done by engineers, designers, and modelers, including data copying from Microsoft Excel to a software, headers and footers for drawings, drawing info extraction, conversions, analysis, and so on. For some of these activities we use plug-ins, programs like Dynamo software, coding like VBA, .NET, and Forge. But these are specific to each software and work for a specific task. In this session, I'm going to introduce an innovative solution using RPA that works with most Autodesk software, including AutoCAD software, Civil 3D software, Revit software, and Navisworks software. You will see RPA in action preparing inputs, transferring data between different sources, performing analysis, extracting data, filing data, generating reports, and much more, aiming to automate your business processes. Contemporary rail projects are vastly complex due to an intersection of several key factors. The deliverables and support that agencies and contractors ask for are scaling with new technology. These technologies are relatively new to the rail design space, and there are currently no precedents for implementing them. On two similar rail projects, tailored workflows and custom automation tools were developed in order to deliver the required standard documentation, visualization, clash detection, and asset management deliverables. The synergy between automation, connected BIM, and creative project workflow were essential to the execution of these projects. In this session, we’ll examine the project needs, collaboration between BIM 360 software and ProjectWise, and automation with the Subassembly Composer, Dynamo, Forge, and LISP.

This presentation will cover the transformation of the business model of imos AG. imos AG started as a CAD/CAM software developer specialising in the furniture and woodworking industries. Today their approach is to cover the whole value chain from point of sale through to production, where web based technology is used to integrate the consumer into the information management. After introducing the specific requirements of the furniture market and the software solutions that imos AG has developed, the presentation will concentrate on the usage of Autodesk technology. The first products imos AG developed were on AutoCAD or AutoCAD OEM. Then imos AG developed their own web based technology. Today Forge is used inside a web based product configuration software. The plan is to integrate Forge into more products. The final part of the presentation will cover two customer examples where Forge technology is used to enable the information flow between consumer experience and production control.

InsiteVR brings VR collaboration to the AEC industry. Teams already using BIM 360 can extend their workflow into collaborative VR by accessing the latest models, reviewing them and adding BIM 360 issues directly within VR headsets. InsiteVR leveraged Forge APIs and the Unity game engine to bring the power of BIM 360 collaboration onto groundbreaking new hardware, Oculus Quest. This class will discuss techniques used to view large scenes on Quest VR hardware for a delightful user experience. Availability of BIM 360 Model Coordination software made the clash detection portion completely automatic; i.e., uploading files to a given space or a folder in BIM 360 Docs software automatically triggers cloud-based, Navisworks-like, clash-detection service. However, how to interpret those result and resolve the issues are currently completely left up to the users. In this session, we will explore possibilities to further automate some portion of analyzing clashes and suggesting possible resolution options. We approach this goal by making use of all the available Forge capabilities, combining the BIM 360 Model Coordination API to detect clashes, keeping track of issues and resolution with the Issues API to accumulate as a knowledge base, and suggesting/making possible changes to the model using Design Automations for Revit software. We will share how much we accomplished with our dream project, and how we did it.
