Manufacturing Informed Design API On Autodesk Forge

Today, building design decisions are not informed by what can be made. Construction processes are iterative, manual, slow, and reactive, with high risk and uncertainty. Data and tools are disconnected and don’t allow processes to work at scale. In this session, we'll go over our Manufacturing Informed Design project. We’ll examine how it brings together our portfolio to inform the design process as early as possible, and we’ll look at how the Autodesk Forge API we’re developing for this will enable our customers and partners to extend our solution. The Manufacturing Informed Design API will be a simple way for customers to 1) publish product templates from Inventor software into Autodesk Construction Cloud or Fusion Team, 2) discover those product templates via the API or Revit, and 3) customize and insert variants from a simple API. We’ll also cover how we’re extending the Autodesk Forge Viewer for simple low- or no-code configuration workflows.

How to Persist: Application Data from Revit into the Cloud—Focus on Prefabrication
Prefabrication and automation in offsite construction requires building models to be rich in data. The generation of construction drawings, creation of a bill of materials and the application of fabricated information is required in the model. In wood construction for example, it requires modeling of accurate processing (precutting) and assembly of prefabricated items including tooling (e.g. nailing and milling operations). All this, including derived data in the form of CNC files, shop drawings, etc., needs to be accessible by all stakeholders - the builders, prefabricators and project managers. By combining Autodesk products and APIs, hsbcad has developed improved workflows to create and modify rich model content. Revit content is able to enrich cloud based BIM that drives CNC equipment and improves on site processes. Automating Large-Rail Project Workflows
Contemporary rail projects are vastly complex due to an intersection of several key factors. The deliverables and support that agencies and contractors ask for are scaling with new technology. These technologies are relatively new to the rail design space, and there are currently no precedents for implementing them. On two similar rail projects, tailored workflows and custom automation tools were developed in order to deliver the required standard documentation, visualization, clash detection, and asset management deliverables. The synergy between automation, connected BIM, and creative project workflow were essential to the execution of these projects. In this session, we’ll examine the project needs, collaboration between BIM 360 software and ProjectWise, and automation with the Subassembly Composer, Dynamo, Forge, and LISP.

Graphically Interactive, Rules-Based Sales Engineering Automation with Forge
"In this class you will learn how to provide your application engineers, sales team, and even customers with a rich, 3D, graphically interactive, guided, design automation solution using Autodesk Forge Design Automation API together with Knowledge Bridge. Knowledge Bridge is a cloud-based, advanced configuration and engineering automation solution. Using Knowledge Bridge together with Forge, you can build your own custom solution guided selling experience that includes graphical selection, drag-and-drop, and advanced rendering using super-fast web-based graphics. These UI’s are constrained by and drive engineering selection, configuration and design rules that automate both pre and post-sales engineering process to create quotes, models, drawings, BOMs, and other engineering related reports. All this can be achieved without programming. And the structure is such that it can support even the most complex products. We’ll also show several examples of previous successful projects."

Using iLogic with Design Automation for Inventor to Create a Configurator
Design Automation for Inventor software generally enables the desktop APIs to be used in the cloud—similar to how they would work on the desktop, but without the need of any installed software or dependent licenses. An additional, easily overlooked advantage of Design Automation for Inventor is its capability to run iLogic scripts in the cloud. These scripts being embedded in the CAD file itself can be programmed to auto execute under certain conditions. This class will address taking advantage of this capability to combine the Forge Design Automation API with iLogic to create a configurator by modifying an input Inventor file (IPT) in the cloud, according to the inputs provided by the user on an easy-to-use user interface. The results can be viewed immediately on a web browser using the Forge Viewer API, and are available for download in multiple formats such as IPT, IDW, and PDF. This web application sample uses the latest web technologies and is OS independent and mobile-device friendly.

AutoCAD DWG™ files are widely used in many industries today, and Forge Platform provides REST APIs to unlock the data inside them, or to create new ones. This class will show you how to securely connect Forge Platform to various data-storage services where your DWG files reside. We will demonstrate how to access a database while processing a DWG file, a critical piece for many customers who have embed database keys in their DWG files. This session features Forge and AutoCAD.
