This presentation aims to demonstrate the ease of the Construction Cloud setup and what an administrator (Qatar Rail) needs to do in order to set up and manage Construction Cloud to address increased requirements and responsibilities, as well as additional interface between each civil design-and-build project and system integrator. We will showcase the process of how Qatar Rail selected the preferred Construction Cloud setup option, showing the pros and cons of each. For developers and service providers in a wide range of fields other than construction—such as mobility, robotics, mapping, security, and maintenance—the value of reliable, high-quality spatial information on buildings and infrastructure is expected to increase in the future. In Toyota Woven City—which is currently under construction as an experimental city where various technologies can be tried for the well-being of people—we've been exploring the ideal form of spatial information, including building information modeling (BIM) data, while closely observing the needs of a wide variety of users. Based on the knowledge we've gained there, we've been developing spatial information of building structures for various users outside the construction industry from the client's standpoint, as well as developing databases and APIs to provide this information in an open-data format. We hope that sharing our experiences will help accelerate the development of spatial information as the future social data infrastructure.

This session will introduce you to the SOFiSTiK Bridge + Infrastructure Modeler (SBIM), a well-established application for Revit that helps you create linear structures. We'll present various functionalities together with project examples from industry leaders. We'll also focus on the modeling of reinforcement and prestressing for concrete bridges. Parametric profile-based design is taken to the next level with enriched information for rebars and tendons. It gives you more flexibility and custom levels of parametrization. Everything is controlled and adjusted with user-friendly input. Rebar and tendon annotations, elevation schedules, and other model-based information can be extracted and shared with other stakeholders.

In this session, we'll walk through an end-to-end cloud-centered workflow on using large point-cloud data for detailed design using ReCap Pro software and the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform. We will share simple tools to prepare surfaces, intelligently decimate large point-cloud data, publish to Autodesk Construction Cloud, and collaboratively extract design elements (like curbs, gutters, median, walls, ADA ramps, driveways, and drainage breaklines) and assets via browser and take them into detailed design technology like Civil 3D software to generate highly accurate surface models. Users can also publish the extracted features and assets to ArcGIS to use the information across the organization. This is a workflow the point cloud industry has been wanting for decades!

The aging of bridges and increased vehicular traffic has made it important that elevated highway structures receive timely and accurate inspections. Today's procedures for inspections require special equipment, disrupt traffic flow, and expose inspection personnel to safety hazards. The advent of drones that can carry cameras in close proximity to elevated structures presents an opportunity to conduct inspections quickly, safely, and effectively. Towards this goal, this class presents an end-to-end system for robotic bridge inspection. The system creates flight missions; evaluates visual quality of data collection; generates 3D models; detects and localizes surface distresses in 3D; and generates reports complying with the requirements of highway agencies. We’ll share lessons learned from deploying this system on 30 bridge inspection projects in the United States and Japan concerning procedures for documenting, communicating, and following up on bridge inspectors’ recommendations.

In this lab, you’ll learn how to create 3D geometry using AutoCAD software’s Solid, Surface, and Mesh tools. You’ll also learn how to create 3D assets for Revit families, as well as for Civil 3D and InfraWorks models, Inventor software, and game engines. You’ll edit the 3D objects using various editing tools, and export the 3D objects to various software. This class is designed to expand your AutoCAD 3D modeling knowledge.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is a state agency responsible for more than 550 miles of highway. As design and construction projects increase in complexity, the Commission faces multiple challenges with data management and variations in project deliverables. With advancing technology, their final goal is to implement digital models as a requirement for project bidding. In congruence with current challenges and goals, they partnered with Microdesk to integrate organization standards and initiate the process of building intelligent 3D model designs using Civil 3D software. The solutions included creating master files of all 550+ miles of highway, CAD/BIM standards for project deliverables, and development of intelligent modeling workflows for Corridors, Drainage, and ROW, all with intelligence that is used to feed geographic information systems (GIS) and asset management systems. These solutions provided a reduction in rework, easier access to data, and an integrated system between departments.

Over the last several years, BIM (Building Information Modeling) and geographic information system (GIS) integration has seen tremendous growth on multiple fronts: extending GIS data to design applications, consuming BIM directly into GIS, and visualizing these data connections in new web experiences that can be shared with entire project teams or operations. While these have enabled some organizations to realize new business insights that support better decision making throughout an asset’s lifecycle, others have not yet unlocked these potential benefits. In this panel discussion, hear from several industry experts on how their organizations are strategically enhancing delivery using BIM with GIS and driving stakeholder engagement. This class will dig into Revit software with tips and tricks from the low-hanging fruit (symbols, text, and standards) and things to consider (metric, Imperial or soft metric, geographies, and so on). We'll look at using note block content for abbreviation lists and schedules, processing diagrams using custom families, and keynoting. We'll cover assemblies codes, what view templates are and how to use them effectively for consistency from templates forward, sample practices for view naming and browser management in anticipation of exports, and ways of managing work sets in local and linked files to help speed up your system by simply organizing data. We'll also look at how work sets track through links, schema for management, best practices on file sizes, and how to push those limits and possibly a few Dynamo Scripts to assist in management and setups of projects.

In this session, we'll go over the details of how to keep and maintain civil site plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D software, export those to Revit software and Collaboration for Revit cloud service, and incorporate both in InfraWorks software for sharing and presenting.
