When it comes to developing and improving infrastructure for communities around the world, technologies such as geographic information system (GIS), CAD, and BIM (Building Information Modeling) are essential. In recent years there has been a growing trend toward enabling greater synergy between these technology platforms, to ensure optimal infrastructure design. In particular, the closer integration of GIS and BIM technologies is seeing optimized designs, accelerated project approvals, reduced costs, smarter cities, and more-resilient infrastructure. This presentation will explore how Cardno—a leading Australian infrastructure and environmental services company—is working to integrate these technologies on numerous large-scale infrastructure projects. It will demonstrate how data capture methods such as land and aerial survey, field data capture, and off-the-shelf data can be integrated, managed, analyzed, and effectively visualized to project stakeholders, so they can better understand and communicate what is being proposed.
