Whether prototyping or designing your next product, enclosure design can be difficult to coordinate between your electronics design and mechanical design. This talk will look at several examples of how to make your next enclosure project easier using Fusion 360 software and Eagle.

Today’s smarter products require multidisciplinary levels of engineering. Converging the electrical and mechanical portions of a design is a critical stage in the product development process. Design teams must have an effective bidirectional electronic CAD (ECAD) / mechanical CAD (MCAD) collaborative environment. This class will introduce the first-ever cloud-connected ECAD-to-MCAD workflow between EAGLE software and Fusion 360 software. By creating a pulse oximeter, this class will showcase the workflows of creating a printed circuit board (PCB) and assigning 3D models to the electronics in EAGLE. The PCB will be live linked into Fusion 360, where an enclosure will be built around the PCB. You’ll learn strategies to ensure serial ports and LCDs are built into the enclosure. The class will demonstrate the power of cloud connectivity by making changes to the board layout, and showing how the live linking works parametrically with respect to the enclosure. We will then perform thermal validation of the board in a Fusion 360 thermal simulation.

With products becoming smarter and more connected, the need for an integrated Printed Circuit Board (PCB) is paramount. This class will introduce the first-ever cloud connected ECAD to MCAD workflow. We will discuss how EAGLE and Fusion 360 can work side by side to create schematics and generate board layouts from 3D CAD geometry and accurate 3D representations of PCBs to create enclosures within Fusion 360.

The class will start by demonstrating the use of Spice in EAGLE software to predict the performance of the circuit, and will analyze the results of the Spice simulation and how a component will dissipate its power. We will then show and verify the thermal simulation results and the iteration process via A360 collaboration. In a real-world scenario engineers and designers do not always get it "right" the first time, so it takes multiple backs and forths between the designer and the engineer to determine a design that works and is efficient, yet meets all specifications. We'll demonstrate this process between EAGLE and Fusion 360 software's capabilities, and show the class how a normal workflow in the industry would operate using EAGLE and Fusion 360 smoothly and seamlessly.

Many of the products we design and finally use are developed in mechanical CAD software. However, in almost all products, you’ll also find an electronic part. Without them, most products would be pointless. With the two Autodesk programs Fusion 360 software and EAGLE software, these two worlds grow together. This class will provide insight into the world of electronics. We intend to explain very basic things: What is a printed circuit board (PCB) and how is it manufactured? Which electronic components are used? How is an electronic layout created in EAGLE and how can a mechanical engineer use, change, and create a layout in Fusion 360? These basic questions will be explained using some illustrative examples.

How can you design, prototype, and successfully launch products when your team is remote? Fusion 360 software and EAGLE CAD software have the collaborative tools you need to enable remote teams. Learn to simultaneously build great products using the Team and Collaboration features of Fusion 360 and EAGLE.

Air pollution is a global health issue, and affects more than 90% of the world’s population. Our team at University of Colorado Boulder, with support from the Autodesk Foundation, has developed air-quality feedback systems and other environmental sensors to help improve public health around the world. We use engineering technology to address global health problems. In partnership with a team from Autodesk Pier 9, a health-based air-quality feedback system (the desktop lamp featured at Autodesk University’s Factory exhibit) was developed using distance design techniques. Fusion 360 software’s CAD, CAM, and Render workspaces were used to collaboratively design the product with inputs from team members in multiple cities, and the electronic computer-aided design (ECAD) integration with EAGLE software was used to design the open-source circuit board. This class will introduce the field of global engineering, with specific examples of how we use CAD, ECAD, and CAM to rapidly prototype solutions to global health problems, from Rwanda to San Francisco.

This class dives into our cross-divisional project at Autodesk for the making of a SmartBridge inside our Pier9 facility. We'll walk through our case study where we used structural analysis, Eagle, Revit and Forge to design and plan the layout of sensors onto an interior pedestrian footbridge. Using sensors for strain, acceleration, temperature, pressure, humidity, sound and cameras, we created the "nervous system". We then integrated all this live sensor data into Autodesk's cloud environment, and used Forge to bring all the data into one context on top of the BIM.Using data at the centre, we'll show you how we learned from the data to create various machine learning analytics for interacting with people on the bridge. In our class, we'll go over how we applied big data analysis techniques, machine learning, computer vision and visualization in the cloud to make our bridge "smart".(Joint AU/Forge DevCon class).

Inspired by the integrated product-development capabilities in Fusion 360 software, this class will walk through the advantages of using the multidisciplinary workspaces (ECAD, modeling, CAM) of the product-innovation platform. You will learn how to save time and money while avoiding frustration by rapidly exploring iterations of a design to optimize a printed circuit board (PCB) and mechanical components for an electromechanical assembly. To fully encompass the design process, we will use ECAD and EAGLE to address basic PCB design principles. We will then use the PCB design to create a parametric electromechanical assembly in Fusion 360, after which, we will use the CAM workspace to develop machining operations for the mechanical components. Finally, we will make a design change to the base PCB component, and we will update the assembly model and CAM operations to illustrate the efficiency and interdisciplinary communication benefits of integrated product development in Fusion 360.
