The audience will learn the basic requirements of two-way communication with IoT and building equipment, how to turn Forge Viewer into an operational portal, and how to enhance operational experience by integrating third-party services such as Microsoft Power BI into Forge Viewer.

This class will cover the use of Inventor software tools for the simplification of both native and non-native vendor equipment models in order to minimize file sizes in large process-facility Building Information Modeling (BIM) projects. We will also discuss the pros and cons of using the BIM Exchange app inside Inventor software to export models for use in AutoCAD Plant 3D software.

This class will explore how to use BIM 360 software as a means for tracking key milestones in the asset lifespan—from design and fabrication, to delivery, installation, commissioning, and, ultimately, handover. This class will also explore workflows around building commissioning and creating repositories for asset-related documentation, including product information such as cut sheets and warranty documents—as well as links to checklists, RFIs, submittals, and other workflows related to the asset. This class is based on FATHOM’s experience using Fusion 360 software to design a complex, functional, 3D-printable piece of lab equipment—a cloud-connected microbiological culture incubator called Crucible that’s capable of simulating extremophile environments. After a brief introduction to the project and its challenging requirements, we’ll dive into structuring designs that have powerful timelines, yet are conducive to successive design revisions by a large distributed engineering team. We will also explore how the final look of the product relates to the constraints of 3D printing and the importance of self-supporting geometry. Finally, we’ll discuss why and how we created a slicer for fused deposition modeling (FDM) printers inside of Fusion 360 software. This session features Fusion 360.

This class will teach the basics of establishing distribution systems in Revit software using criteria-based equipment selection via the LayoutFAST plug-in. We'll look at how we can easily insert real-world equipment families into a Revit model, and how to establish distribution systems. We'll also cover the importance of circuit data within a model, and how we can use that data for design decisions and efficient project completion.

This session will cover facility maintenance as a step toward a virtual factory. We'll address effective visualization workflows for equipment modeling using Inventor software. Then we'll create an immersive virtual environment that will be implemented with a head-mounted virtual reality (VR) device and hand controllers. Use ReCap software to register your point clouds for use in AutoCAD Plant 3D software. ReCap software simplifies the process of adding new equipment and piping to an existing plant. As-builts can be difficult and getting field measurements that are precise and thorough can be very time-consuming. Using laser scans can ease the pain of this task and make modeling new equipment and piping in as-builts fun again!

Our intelligent objects and systems allow you to run what If scenarios and perform all the necessary HVAC system calculations. Once systems are created and calculated, you automatically select equipment from many of the equipment manufacturers in the HVAC industry. After all the equipment capacities have been determined, the schedules and schematics can be imported into Revit using the new Revit Add-in feature or you can map and transfer the data into the corresponding Revit families and automatically get your schedules created in Revit.

This class shows how after you create an electrical design in AutoCAD® Utility Design software, you also need to create a single-line circuit design using dynamic blocks and linetypes to provide visual connectivity for utility crews to use while installing the equipment associated with the design. A single-line drawing provides the best detail in the energizing/installation process at the equipment level and shows connectivity all the way back to the substation. When an overhead pole is designed with TV/telephone/primary/secondary, you can create the service risers attached to the pole using riser details and dynamically place them in the model space design. These features save time by enabling crews to know in which quadrant the customer or crews are to install the risers.

This case study explores how the Inventor Configurator Automation, Integration, & Customization Project streamlines design workflows by automating the generation of 3D models, 2D drawing sheets, and related outputs. Traditionally, designers manually created models and drawings, a process that was time-consuming and prone to human error. By using Automation, Integration, & Customization, the system processes user-provided XML data, integrates with BIM 360 software for file management, and uses the Autodesk Platform Services Design Automation, Integration, & Customization API to generate and manage outputs in the cloud. This innovation enhances efficiency, reduces errors, and provides quick access to essential design outputs.

As an innovator in improving construction processes, Skanska was an early adopter of BIM 360 Field software. Building on Skanska’s experience, the presenters will review a large project that used BIM 360 Field to augment information flow and quality control, and improve project delivery to the client. BIM 360 Field enabled full sharing of supply chain information across fabrication and jobsite to ensure a successful quality project for the client. This 1,550-spot parking garage was located in a tight urban locale and consisted of 1,486 precast concrete members. Using BIM 360 Field equipment and checklist modules, precast members were traced from fabrication, transportation, and installation. In using BIM 360 Field, the project and subcontractor team reduced the manual effort involved in collecting quality and logistics data. The presenters will also cover lessons learned, including the need for transparency, barcoding challenges, and ongoing user support.
