In this course, the Evangelist Team will share how Fusion 360 software and Autodesk Generative Design tools in Fusion 360 can be used as part of a design exploration strategy for industrial designers, expediting the process from conceptual development to product development, helping to make decisions on the design strategy and aesthetic directions of a product.

Are you an industrial designer (or a CAD user in general)? Are you not doing much with the simulation tools? Come and learn why and how you should be exploiting finite element analysis (FEA) and simulation in Fusion 360 software. Engineers are designers’ teammates, not opponents. Design and validation tools will help you collaborate with engineers more effectively. Those tools will also help you to carry a design to production with fewer changes. You’ll go to engineering with a sound concept, rather than something that needs a lot of help. We will talk about static stress, shape optimization, and maybe even a little generative design.

When the concept itself or the concept designer cannot convey the idea or design to the engineer or manufacturing, it becomes the industrial designer’s job to walk the line between concept and engineering in order to convey the challenging concept to engineering and manufacturing. This class will not only explore personal experiences of a professional industrial designer working between concept and manufacturing, but will also identify key workflows or processes of how the industrial designer can communicate design concepts more effectively through communication techniques with engineering and manufacturing. This class is for anyone who would like to learn or have an understanding of the workflow and thought process of the industrial design industry and learn class-explained techniques and workflows to communicate concept and designs to others.

The session will present concept design development workflow for industrial designers with Fusion 360 software quick Sculpt and Solid Modeling, plus Rendering. We will also mix with Physical Sketching on Wacom Tablet. The class is about introducing new early design iteration process with Fusion 360 software for industrial designers. Traditionally, designers start sketching when they’ve received overall goal/direction for the product. This class suggests that designers mix quick 3D modeling with their traditional sketching workflow. For example, Fusion 360 software has super-flexible Sculpt Modeling, and it takes just a few minutes to generate basic forms. Designers can start their sketches over these basic product forms and find balance and details based on real scale. This session features Fusion 360 and SketchBook Pro.

With the advent of ways to visualize ideas, develop design solutions, and rapidly prototype using digital software technologies, traditional ways of teaching industrial design in the classroom environment are lately being questioned by educators, employers, and students. The intent of this class is to present a curriculum model for teaching industrial design using digital software technologies as and where applicable. We will cover courses demonstrating the incorporation of digital software technologies for ideation, modeling, project management, drafting, prototyping, analysis, and injection mold design. Successful integration of this curricular effort into the discipline of industrial design is important for bridging the gap between education and industry expectations. Select academics and industry professionals will join us in a panel format to share their reactions to the curriculum model as well as to provide insights, experiences, and validations.

This session will be an introduction to the world of Alias product design, concept modeling, and detailed surface modeling. We’ll look at how automation can speed up the design process—allowing faster and more informed design making, as well creating shareable and reusable IP across the design pipeline. Experience-based decision making is becoming more important, and we’ll look at trends and offer insights into how this can help industrial and product designers gather customers insights. Disparate tools need cross-team and cross-function collaboration, making the designers of tomorrow even more efficient. Making decisions faster (with confidence) across teams and geographies is key. We believe that the future of design will start with the customer, and how we ensure that connection works (as well as enterprise-wide integration) in a seamless manner.

Product development is a pain, right? It doesn't have to be. Let us walk you through it. We're 2 industrial designers with a knack for teaching. Design Thinking is a great process to move a team quickly from problem space to solutions. But it's just that: a cognitive process. What do you do with all those great ideas? This class will be a hands-on introduction to Design Thinking and Making. In small teams, we'll work rapidly through a design challenge, using a human-centered approach, and develop virtual prototypes using Fusion 360 software. Participants will be given a project brief, and we'll select teams at random. The focus of this highly engaging workshop is to rapidly develop a product solution (as a team) through Design Thinking and conceptual realization using Fusion 360. Teams will prepare and present their solutions in an informal share.

“Design thinking” has become a common business term in recent years. You may have heard it on one of your teams, or from a designer, marketer, or engineer. As an industrial designer, I am often asked about it. Many people are not familiar with industrial design, but they know design thinking is part of what we do. This class will be a hands-on introduction to design thinking. I will center it on a team-based, timed design challenge. There will be a project brief and teams will be selected at random. First, we will benchmark the specific industry and establish a target audience to investigate the business direction. The main section of this workshop will be to develop and present a product pitch for a specific product. Part of this event will be the critique of ideas.
