Generative Design in Fusion 360 software is extremely powerful for creating designs optimized for performance, manufacturing, and cost. However, some may argue that it’s "too much tool" for everyday modeling and simple design work. As we continue to evolve our solution and pursue new innovations, we remain focused on our vision of making generative design more approachable and applicable for a broader range of design tasks and users. In this session, we’ll be talking about the work we’re doing to bring this vision to life, and help you understand how to make the most of Generative Design in Fusion 360.

The assessment of Generative Design in Fusion 360 software is based on the capability assessment model related to the key capability areas of generative design for general applicability and their associated criteria outlined in the intrinSIM Market Report entitled “A Vision for Generative Design,” which explores the potential of a shift enabled by generative design and what is required to enable that design shift. intrinSIM has developed a process with a quantified assessment for each key capability area in the capability assessment model and criteria outlined in “A Vision for Generative Design.” The same capability assessment model can be used for determining requirements for specific generative design applications, and the suitability of generative design workflows for specific applications.

Creating custom bridge parts ready for modeling transportation projects in InfraWorks software can be challenging for the uninitiated. This class will provide the chance to learn how to create these parts using both the Revit and Inventor methodologies from scratch in a hands-on environment. We will look at the benefits of each method and how each can be incorporated into a transportation project and progressed through the workflow from modeling in InfraWorks to the documentation phase in Revit. These techniques will be worked through in the context of bridge engineering, but they will also be applicable to tunneling.

The class will aim to share relevant and transferable stories about cost-saving Fusion LifeCycle use cases as they relate to product management and internal operations.The class will focus on three areas: (1)Recognizing the overlooked losses in an organization - time; (2)How to transition from analog to digital management systems - the short term adversities and the long term payoff; and, (3)Using Fusion LifeCycle to promote positive culture change within your organization.

This class will be a presentation of tips, tricks, and workarounds for the Inventor software Tube & Pipe add-in. A powerful design tool built into the Inventor software landscape, Tube & Pipe is the bread-and-butter tool for many designers. We will explore some basics of getting started, and we'll look at some secrets and workarounds for successfully routing and populating pipe runs in this environment. The class will focus on rigid piping, but tips will be applicable to flexible hose and tubing design as well.

This class will cover the combination of AutoCAD Civil 3D software, Revit software, AutoCAD Plant 3D software, and reality computing. Years of practice with 3D scanning and 3D modeling in the oil and gas industry have yielded applicable workflows and submittal products for building. The challenges of working in the petrochemical field have helped identify pitfalls that we can now avoid in today's reality capture and Building Information Modeling (BIM) construction tasks. This class will show that the capture of the data is not what's important; the Reality Solutions that are created from the data are what provide the most value.

Technological advancements in hardware and software tools have made reality capture more prominent in many industry workflows. Designers, engineers, and artists are continuously exposed to news about new laser scanning or photo-based acquisition workflows and success stories. However, they aren't sure when to apply each of these methods or don't understand their advantages or limitations. In this class, we will use a variety of successfully captured objects from different corners of the world to reveal the base principles, strengths, limitations, and best practices for using each of the reality capture methods and devices. We will also offer insider tips to help you understand which method is most applicable for your workflows.

Factory design is often ongoing and requires change to accommodate new and upgraded products, increase safety, and provide work spaces for people in an ever-changing environment. While Revit has traditionally been used in a way that is one site, one project—this presentation will share how Revit can be used to accommodate many projects in one model. In regards to manufacturing and innovation, speed is key when it comes to new factory designs. Software should enable us to quickly build off what we've already created, and create permit packages that can get sent out to local authorities having jurisdiction. This type of building information modeling (BIM) management isn't only applicable to factories and manufacturing spaces; it can also be applied to any building that continues to require permit packages.

With the advent of ways to visualize ideas, develop design solutions, and rapidly prototype using digital software technologies, traditional ways of teaching industrial design in the classroom environment are lately being questioned by educators, employers, and students. The intent of this class is to present a curriculum model for teaching industrial design using digital software technologies as and where applicable. We will cover courses demonstrating the incorporation of digital software technologies for ideation, modeling, project management, drafting, prototyping, analysis, and injection mold design. Successful integration of this curricular effort into the discipline of industrial design is important for bridging the gap between education and industry expectations. Select academics and industry professionals will join us in a panel format to share their reactions to the curriculum model as well as to provide insights, experiences, and validations.

Transformation of engineering education has been a recent concern in the education and industry communities, with a call to integrate "science" and "application" through design. With health topping today’s issues, design of medical devices has become a major candidate for design applications to be taught to engineering undergraduates. This class describes the preparation and the delivery of an education module where rigorous subjects such as kinematics and strength of materials are taught in the context of designing medical devices. Autodesk® ForceEffect™ and Autodesk® ForceEffect™ Motion software are used to introduce concepts such as force and moment, and Autodesk® Inventor® Professional software is used to develop, simulate, and manufacture the devices designed by the students. This class covers a general design concept, followed by a case study that details design of a tissue microarrayer. This approach, due to its contextual nature, is also applicable to industry training centers.

In this class, you will learn how to customize substation design using a utility company standard philosophy with AutoCAD® Electrical and Autodesk® Inventor® software. We will cover in depth standard techniques to configure each module (Structural, Electrical, and Site Development) as a utility platform. You will improve your drawing efficiency, accuracy, coordination, and overall productivity. The use of consistent utility standards will give you the ability to validate data very quickly. Use this utility standard philosophy to create a fully integrated utility library that is applicable for new and existing projects. With minimal manual data input, you will be able to generate and retrieve documentation such as bills of materials, single line, three line, elementary/schematic, wiring diagram, panel, cable lists, structural analysis, station layout, grading plans, and asset information. Attendees should have general Inventor and AutoCAD Electrical knowledge.

Soon after the successful launch of PokEmon GO, Royal HaskoningDHV started exploring the applicability of Augmented Reality in engineering consultancy. Early 2017 we presented our first HoloLens Showcase of Heerlen Railway Station in the Netherlands. Initially intended as a new way to present our deliverables to customers, our showcase drew curiosity from a much wider audience: ranging from residents living nearby the railway station to customers new to our business. Moreover, we believe that AR will allow us to fully engage both clients and users in a truly co-creative design process. In short, interactive design and engineering with Augmented Reality. Together with various launching customers and in partnership with Cadac Group, we are now developing a suite of applications to allow both engineering consultants and relevant stakeholders to truly interact with holograms including shared view solutions to work from different locations, holographic libraries to select objects and solutions from, and synchronisation solutions to push designs back to Revit. These and similar developments and closely tied to the emergence of Digital Twins for the Built Environment in which Royal HaskoningDHV is seeking to take a leading role. The Brazilian city of Curitiba was declared the smartest city in the world, according to the World Smart City Awards, a prize awarded by Fira Barcelona in Spain. This is considered one of the major honors in the areas of innovation and smart cities. This session will show participants the evolution of the building information modeling (BIM) process in Curitiba. We will especially look at BIM within the scope of the city's urban planning agency (IPPUC) and its executing body for structural works programs (UTAG)—with the implementation of the BIM laboratory (LaBIM PMC), the use of 3D models to present works to city residents, the interactions developed in conjunction with CIM (city information modeling), and the application of the models for the execution process of the works, mainly in relation to quality management, scope, and schedule.

French engineering firm Artelia faced a challenge in generating secondary supports assembly drawings from AutoCAD Plant 3D software. The default AutoCAD Plant 3D settings were time consuming, and the competitor's solution was costly. Autodesk Consulting developed a new AutoCAD Plant 3D plug-in, leading to a 75% time reduction across Artelia projects, potentially saving approximately 208 days in the first year alone. The plug-in offers a variety of features. It automatically generates orientations and position views in a drawing, which streamlines the design process. It includes auto-annotation of views, making documentation more efficient. The addition of a bill of materials (BOM) and a new graphical user interface further improves user friendliness and functionality. The solution currently works with secondary supports and is beneficial for all AutoCAD Plant 3D users who use orthographic drawings. It can potentially be scaled up to include support for all objects and drawings, and for drawings with auto-dimensioning capabilities.
