This class will take a close look at how the immersive planetarium show Signs of Life was produced. We'll discuss how art and science are merged to create extraordinary content through a public private partnership. You'll learn how it was possible through the building of a new animation production studio inside the existing science institution, Griffith Observatory. We'll look at how a producer works from concept to completion, from development to final delivery and everything in-between. The class will show how Autodesk's Shotgun software was implemented at the center of the production studio pipeline and how that enabled the team to create, track, review and render the show.

Increased renewable energy in power grids has reduced the load factor of coal-based power plants. Independent thermal power producers face regulations to shut plants or operate at reduced load. However, there are grid stability and availability issues with solar and wind power. To address both, existing thermal power plants need to operate flexibly. In this mode, a plant quickly ramps down from 100% load to as low as 30% and ramps back up, based on renewable surplus or deficit, respectively. This deviation from actual design parameters leads to thermal mechanical stresses in equipment, impacting equipment life and site personnel safety. Material residual life is studied under such adverse operating conditions. Challenge is handled by modeling and simulating wide variations in steam process conditions on thick-walled piping. Autodesk Fusion 360 and Autodesk CFD software help us understand transient thermal behavior. This talk will focus on new business prospects, and how to predict equipment life and ensure grid stability.

In this class, we will look at EDGE and how this tool can be used to detail precast concrete, from conceptual design and estimating to final design and production. From providing real-time estimates to maintaining rebar naming conventions, and anywhere in between, EDGE is the platform that lets Revit users work at the fine level of detail required by the precast concrete industry.

High Efficiency Roughing or HER is arguably one of the most talked about and exciting technologies (and machining techniques) to hit the machining world in the last decade. However, as vendors rush to define terms like high speed machining (HSM) and high efficiency machining (HEM), business owners and CNC programmers are left struggling to make sense of it all. This presentation is designed to educate attendees about high efficiency roughing and how this powerful machining strategy can reduce cycle time and help mold makers increase profits.

These shop drawings will have all of the information necessary for production, including piece weights, lengths, volumes, and counts, as well as the necessary reinforcement and embedded elements within each element. This class will walk you through the unique process of utilizing assemblies and schedules within Revit software to achieve a desirable shop ticket that any precast manufacturer can use. Finally, this class will show you how to use view templates to maintain the drafting integrity required for precast shop drawings.
