The BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (BC MoTI) plans transportation networks and provides transportation services and infrastructure for the Province of British Columbia. BC MoTI has transitioned from CAiCE and is now using Civil 3D software for consultant and in-house survey, design, and construction administration workflows. This class will detail the entire Civil 3D implementation process, including a BIM (Building Information Modeling)-based approach for the development of workflows and data handoffs, CAD standardization, subassembly and application customization, training and information dissemination, continued support, and documentation. The end product is a Civil 3D terms-of-reference document that describes all of the requirements for using Civil 3D for survey, design, and construction administration tasks, and is applicable to both Ministry staff and private sector consultants.

The presentation will cover the 4D management of hundreds of machine installations, each with various stages of preparation work required. Previously the workflow involved comparing 2D AutoCAD layouts to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. First, we'll define the prerequisites of having a Factory Design Utilities layout, where the machines are individually laid out in 3D. The layout will then be imported into Navisworks software and prepared for the TimeLiner function. Then, we'll export a schedule as a .CSV with all the necessary details. Next, we'll import the file into Navisworks for the TimeLiner function. We'll show the process of making links, and explain all other necessary setup parameters. We'll run the sim, and export the viewport into a .PPT for distribution. In closing, you'll see an update to the original layout which then reflects in the end results. And we'll even include a change in schedule, to emulate logistical issues. The workflow helps with collaborative agile planning.

In this session, we'll look at a workflow that goes from a drawing to the output of technical documentation for high-volume production using multiple setups and machines. It starts with raw material and the use of parametric modeling and model states to break up the individual operations. From there we can use Inventor Tolerance Analysis to determine stackups and points of high risk during machining. The model is then translated to Autodesk Fusion 360 software for its machining capabilities. It quickly shows the machine library and tooling library capabilities. The Fusion 360 CAM validates cycle times and interference checks. Fusion 360 CAM data is then exported. With Inventor, the part is then made into technical drawings. Tooling and inspection documents are then populated with all the necessary data. Any part updates can be driven parametrically, validated, and updated on demand.

One solution can be the Hyperloop, promising shorter travel times than air passenger travel with fewer emissions. mu-zero HYPERLOOP is a team of 50+ passionate students from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) with a mission to contribute to a sustainable future of transportation. Each year, we design and build a Hyperloop Pod using Autodesk Fusion software, and ultimately compete very successfully against other teams at the European Hyperloop Week (EHW). This session will explore how we use Fusion to design and manage a complex project with 25,000+ components and collaborate with 50+ team members. VRED software is a renowned tool for automotive renderings and for virtual reality (VR) collaboration to review vehicle designs. Besides its popularity in automotive design, other industries such as manufacturing and engineering have been exploring VRED software's capabilities to showcase products, visualize workspaces, and test assemblies in 3D space. New to VRED 2023.3 is the ability to import metadata from CAD assemblies. Understanding how this extra data flows from one app to another may allow new ways for teams to communicate. This may include keeping track of dates throughout the project lifecycle and categorizing data for easier selection. Visualization designers can collaborate by sharing scene notes, transfer Microsoft Excel data into metadata tags, and convert physical texture sizes. They can work more efficiently, leaving scenegraph nodes unchanged and accessing metadata sets to make geometry and materials visible. Use cases for greater productivity along the digital thread connecting users are limitless.
