Description
Many water authorities have built extensive HEC-RAS model libraries that remain valuable but are hard to standardize, scale, and adapt. This session will show how Türkiye's General Directorate of Water Management is transforming legacy river models into a next-generation InfoWorks ICM environment for higher precision, performance, and future cloud use. We will outline a modernization strategy covering geometry transfer, standardization, terrain integration, and numerical stability. A benchmark shows improvement: 1 million cells, diffusion wave, 173 hours versus 7.5 million cells, shallow water, 22 hours. The result is faster, more accurate, and operational enabling automation, scalability, and real-time readiness.
Key Learnings
- Learn how large legacy HEC-RAS model libraries can be modernized into a standardized InfoWorks ICM environment.
- Learn about performance and hydraulic gains that come from shifting diffusion wave models to higher-resolution shallow water models.
- Learn how cloud-ready and scalable model architecture increases the long-term value of hydraulic model libraries.
- Learn key steps and decisions necessary to convert legacy models into stable, high-resolution, operational hydrodynamic systems.
