In this session, we’ll cover the new Informed Design API. Informed Design is an Autodesk offering aimed at connecting products created in Inventor or Autodesk Fusion software with project data in Revit software. This will improve project outcomes and increase productivity by bringing together the capabilities of our manufacturing software with our architecture, engineering, and construction software. The class will start with an overview of Informed Design and how the API can be used to extend and customize the offering. We’ll cover product creation in Inventor and Fusion. And we’ll look at how to create good BIM content by generating well-formed Revit families for use in a Revit project. Then we’ll show how to create outputs from a Revit project at scale. We’ll follow up with an overview of specific examples of how our customers and partners are using the API, followed by an example of how to use the API.

Hear the story of how Cascadia Structural Timber Solutions went from being a small hand fabrication and truss manufacturer to a fast-growing glulam fabricator, looking to lead the way in new mass timber buildings using Informed Design in Inventor software. As many projects move to a hybrid of steel and wood, we need to be able to provide products that can be easily used and understood early in the design process. Furthermore, we will demonstrate how Airtable can seamlessly interface with the Manufacturing Informed Design API to generate Revit families based on products developed in Inventor, and use the Manufacturing Informed Design website to see each variant that has been placed into the layout. Through this integration, you will witness firsthand the remarkable speed and efficiency gains achieved by caching each variant of your product.

This session will outline a workflow for creating a Revit model of a steel composite cable stay bridge by using a combo of Grasshopper, Dynamo, and Informed Design for Inventor software. Modeling a bridge structure poses challenges due to its complex geometry, which adheres to a vertical, horizontal, and super-elevated roadway profile. Consequently, the steel girders, beams, and connection details must align with this 3D roadway profile, complicating the creation and placement of Revit families. For this challenge, COWI used Grasshopper and Dynamo to automate the creation of steel geometry, parameters, and insertion points, ensuring accurate orientation for family placement. Additionally, Informed Design was used to transform various iterations of intricate steel connections into families, which were then positioned using a Dynamo workflow. The integration of visual programming and Informed Design has been vital in efficiently producing complex bridge structures with a focus on automation.

Autodesk Informed Design and Data Exchange are the platform technologies we use to connect plant design and construction, with the help of Autodesk Construction Cloud. It's never been so easy to share data and its configurations. Data Exchange makes it very easy to collaborate and share information in integrated factory modeling (IFM) within Autodesk software systems, but also with applications such as Tekla or SolidWorks. Autodesk Construction Cloud helps us store all information centrally and make it available to everyone involved in the project. Informed Design offers the possibility to provide configurations from Inventor software for various types of building equipment in Revit software as configurable families. This ensures that only predefined variants are installed and prevents cost-intensive special solutions. Last year, we talked about the possibilities of the beta versions. Now we would like to take a closer look at the solutions and share experiences from customer projects with you. It's going to be good!

Bonava is a leading residential developer of affordable housing units in Northern Europe. To achieve this goal, lowering costs and increasing productivity is essential. Standardized single-family housing units have been developed, with accompanying models, drawings, and documentation in Revit software. When the site layout is ready, Dynamo software helps to get the information from the houses to the site model and vice versa. While solutions for the houses are predefined, site design remains the largest variable. We use generative design tools to create more-detailed site-layout solutions in earlier stages, and measure both hard and soft values for each option. Now, numbers back up design exploration, making it possible to identify correlations between different design metrics. Furthermore, this lets us bring representatives of different disciplines to fact-based discussions very early on, to assess the plot and make informed decisions for further development.

Design computation is a way of thinking and approaching design that goes beyond the tools involved. This class will focus on how Dynamo visual programming language extension fits into the design computation workflow at NBBJ and the larger architecture industry by walking through a series of example tools, processes, and approaches to computation. Dynamo extension excels at bridging the gap between what Revit software does really well and the ways that designers want to work. The class will explore practical examples along 2 primary avenues: workflow automation and rapid feedback. Key to both is data management. Revit software holds a lot more information than it easily presents. By extracting data and synthesizing it with internal or external information, Dynamo extension can push that information back into the model or present it to the designer to drive informed decisions.

Using our Autodesk suite to reshape our design process and owning our IP has enabled sustainable scaling and the delivery of large pipelines of work for central government using off-site construction methods. This success has led to a 300% increase in our manufacturing capacity in the last three years, while maintaining client satisfaction with the quality of our design and project delivery. We'll explain how this has been achieved through repeatable and continuously improved designs, supported by Autodesk Build and Autodesk Docs software. In the second half of this talk, the focus will shift toward the potential of Autodesk Informed Design software and how it can facilitate a platform design through the development of subassemblies, ultimately supporting off-site construction by maximizing productivity and improving quality through increased industrialization.
