Harnessing the Power of the Cloud in Construction

Digitized workflows are changing what’s possible for contractors

A new, more connected era of construction has begun, enabled by digital technologies, mobile devices, and data access in the cloud. It’s affecting every part of the construction process, from quantification and preconstruction through to handover. Contractors and subcontractors alike are finding that the manual and paper-based processes that they’ve used in the past can’t compete with the new digitized approaches, but new skills and new approaches are required. Emily Liu, a former customer success manager at Autodesk, shares her experience helping a builder adopt TradeTapp, a prequalification tool in the BuildingConnected portfolio. While the builder’s team initially hesitated to integrate it into their workflow, once they did, they not only saw an 80% reduction in the time required to capture subcontractor data, but they were able to expose critical information for their preconstruction team that drove important business benefits. Ultimately, every construction company is on their own journey of digital transformation, and they can adopt these new technologies at the pace that’s right for them.
