Description
This session introduces a next-generation design for excellence (DfX) framework for industrialized construction, which combines design for manufacturing, assembly, disassembly, and sustainability into an AI-enabled decision-making system. This framework seeks to shift construction from a project-based approach to a performance-driven, product-based approach, focusing on constructability and lifecycle optimization early in the design phase. Demonstrated through a pilot building in six stages loading, learning, programming, assembly, experimentation, and exhibition it incorporates computational design, large-scale 3D concrete printing, robotic assembly, and prefabrication, and serves as a living laboratory for advancing industrialized construction systems.
Key Learnings
- Learn about the principles of DfX.
- Learn about AI-enabled design tools and computational workflows.
- Learn about connecting computational design, prefabrication, and robotic fabrication methods such as 3D concrete printing.
- Learn about strategies for transitioning construction from project-based delivery to product-based systems.
