    Description

As the title suggests, what owners want (need) from BIM (Building Information Modeling) is worlds away from what architects, engineers, and contractors need to build an owner’s building. This session will discuss BIM-related challenges from the architecture, engineering, and construction professional’s and owner’s perspectives. Once an understanding of each party’s unique needs is established, a road map can be developed that will enable collaboration through design, construction, commissioning, and facilities management. A hopeful outcome of this session is to shed some light on the challenging task of understanding differences that will allow for a clear road map moving forward. The gap between the AEC side and the owner side needs to be closed to truly take BIM out of this world.

    Key Learnings

    • Learn that what owners need from an intelligent model if very different than what AEC needs
    • Learn what is needed if your BIM is intended for the complete building lifecycle
    • Learn how technology lets users access information from a building model throughout the building lifecycle
    • Understand that there isn’t one thing that works for all owners (private versus government versus campus/institutional)
