Dynamo for Preconstruction: Data Management for Estimating Workflows

In this presentation, Skanska USA Building will share one of its approaches to preconstruction workflows on model-based estimating and the benefits of BIM (Building Information Modeling) data management. We will present case studies on the tools and workflows for data management utilizing Dynamo, Revit software, and Microsoft Excel. This presentation will focus on describing the workflows at conceptual and schematic design, and will also present on the process of validating 3D models, along with the understanding of how the available data can be capitalized on. We will present how this approach has increased collaboration between design and construction, and we’ll share best practices for setting up teams and processes for success. We will present proven practices from Skanska that include common workflow standards, and we’ll show examples of how to use Revit, Dynamo, and Excel to vet models for appropriateness of use, extract quantities from models, validate quantity and assembly assumptions, and then incorporate these into construction estimates.
